Teaching & Non – Teaching Personnel for S.Y. 2023
SESSION 2: Gender and Development (GAD)

Grade I – Faith Classroom
I. INTRODUCTION:
“Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the
challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development and building good
governance.”

Gender and Development (GAD) is a way and perspective on development that is
inclusive and empowering, equitable, long-term, violent-free, respectful of human rights,
encouraging of self-determination, and supports the actualization of human potential. It
aims to change society's social, economic, and political structures and challenges the
legitimacy of the gender roles they assigned to men and women; contends that women are
active agents of development and not just passive recipients of development assistance;
and emphasizes the need for women to organize themselves and participate in political
processes in order to strengthen their voice.
II. OBJECTIVES:
A. Terminal Objective:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to use differentiated,
developmentally appropriate learning experiences to address learners’ gender,
needs strengths, interest and experiences.
B. Enabling Objectives:
Explain and understand the concepts of sex, gender, gender characteristics,
gender roles, and other key concepts related to Gender and Development;
Identify gender – bias practices in the classroom; and
Integrate gender – fair practices in the teaching – learning process

Gender is about recognizing roles between men and women.

this. This person will take a piece of blank paper from their seatmate's bag and jot
down the strength of the bag's owner. This will be done continuously until all papers
are used. The teachers will finally look through the envelop the strengths written by
their colleagues and reflect on it.
On the second part, we reviewed the concept of sex, gender, gender
characteristics, gender roles, and other key concepts related to gender and
development (GAD) comprehensively. Ms. Dela Cruz shared her personal
experiences on the topic. She also provided us information on the international
commitments, laws and policies in mainstreaming gender and development in
Department of Education.
In the later part, Ms. Dela Cruz assessed our Gender Awareness and Readiness by
answering the session Post Test. We were given 10 – item evaluation, where we have
to analyze each given situation based on our belief. The result of the evaluation will
determine whether we are Gender Fair, Nearing Gender Fair, Nearing Gender Bias,
and Gender Bias.
