1.0 INTODUCTION
- Google Glass is Google’s latest product that hails a new generation of tech gadgetry in the form of
augmented reality eyeglasses.
- Google Glass is a wearable computer featuring a head-mounted display in the form of eyeglasses.
The Google glasses function as a hands-free smartphone, letting users access the mobile internet
browser, camera, maps, calendar, and other apps by voice commands.
1.2 Insert diagram ( Question 1) and label for every part of the device
1.3 Explain the function of the device and insert the diagram in (Question 2).
- Turn-by-turn directions
Navigation apps have made it easy to find your way from point A to point B, but Google
Glass will display directions right in front of your face. The headset will be able to tell you
exactly what street to turn on, in addition to displaying a map of your surroundings via
Google Maps. West Virginia has already proposed a bill that would ban wearing Google
Glass while driving, but those turn-by-turn directions could be pretty useful while walking.
- Voice translations
Translation is yet another feature Google promises to offer with Glass. For example, users
could ask Glass how to say “delicious” in Brazilian, as the company demonstrated in its latest
trailer for Glass called “How It Feels.”
- Virtual reminders
Google Glass can remind you to perform certain tasks just like your smartphone does, but
adds a visual aspect. For example, users can look at an object and say “Remind me to...” and
the headset will associate a photo with the assigned task. Additionally, Google Glass can
sync with your calendar to show you when your next meeting is.
ADVANTAGES
- It is easy for inexperienced user to learn and operate with the help of touch of any one of the
fingers.
- It provides quick and efficient selection of menu options.
- It is easy to change the GUI on the touch screen interface with the help of software upgrades.
DISADVANTAGES
- Accuracy and precision depend on size of the icons. When icons are very small, it may be
difficult to activate the same with the help of large fingers.
- It requires proximity of the user to operate. User must be within reach of the touch screen
display.
Screen Readers
Screen readers have been around for more than 30 years. A screen reader is a program
that analyzes the layout and content of a website and provides a text to speech
translation. The playback speed can be set by the user and commands allow them to
skip from heading to heading, click links, and do other important tasks. Much like how
a sighted person can visually skim a website to find the section they want to read, a
person who is blind can do the same with their screen reader—as long as the website’s
content has been coded with proper header tags.
Speech Recognition
Speech recognition software allows a user to navigate, type, and interact with websites
using their voice.
5.0 CONCLUSION
- The societal implications of Google Glass as a new technology are sweeping. While the privacy
concerns are a drawback, the product's hands-free interface provides a new take on familiar smartphone
technology.
