The constitution of 1956


Introduction:

1. It was produced by the constituent assembly under Chaudary Muhammad Ali.


2. It was promulgated on 23rd March, 1956.

Salient features:

1. Preamble
2. Federal system of government
3. Parliamentary system of government.
4. Unicameral Legislature (150 seats in national assembly under parity proposal, each
provincial assembly had 80 members)
5. Fundamental rights
6. Islamic provisions
a. The name of the country will be the Islamic republic of Pakistan.
b. Head of the state shall be Muslim
c. Islamic Advisory council shall be set up
d. No law detrimental to Islam shall be enacted
7. National language: Urdu and Bengali were national languages

The constitution of 1962


Introduction:

1. The task of constitution making was assigned to Justice Shahab uddin.


2. He analyzed the causes of failure of democracy.
3. The constitution was implemented on 1st March, 1962.

1. Federal system.
2. Presidential system
3. One unit
4. Uni-cameral legislature (Parity between two wings)
5. Independence of Judiciary
6. Fundamental rights

7. Islamic provisions(no law detrimental to Islam, head of state, first avoided keeping name
Islamic republic but later restored)
8. Indirect method of elections (120,000 basic democracies, village, Tehsil and district
councils. The members of the central and provincial assemblies and the president were
elected by these basic democracies)

The constitution of 1973

3. Parliamentary form of government (President was HOS and he acted on the advice of
P.M)
4. Bi-Cameral legislature
5. Supremacy of Judiciary
6. Fundamental rights
7. Direct Mode of elections
8. Official language (Urdu: national, English: Official)
9. Election of the President
10. National assembly, Senate
11. 21 amendments
