Course Objective
Overall: To provide the first year students a common platform where they would be able to understand the
concept of business environment its meaning, scope and importance, various aspects/constituents. To develop
an understanding of the regulation of registered companies and to provide understanding of the various
provisions of the Indian Company Law.
Topic wise :
1. Legal Aspects of Business – A basic understanding of role of business in the society,state and laws,
Mercantile Law
2. Indian Contract Act, 1872 – A basic knowledge of Indian Contract Act, 1872, its various aspects and
constituents
3. Sale of Goods Act, 1930 – A basic understanding of Sales and Goods Act, 1930, its various aspects and
constituents
4. Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881–. A basic understanding of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, its
various aspects and constituents
5. Companies Act, 1956- To acquaint them with Companies Act, 1956, nature, form, formation of companies.
6. Consumer Protection Act, 1986– Gain knowledge on Consumer Protection Act, 1986, its salient features,
objectives etc.

7. Intellectual Property Right – To emphasize the essential aspects the fundamentals of Intellectual property
Rights.
8. Economic Indicators- students will have the knowledge and skills of different Economic indicators like,
consumer Price Index, Inflation Rate etc.
9. Intellectual Property Regime – Came to about the guidelines on Intellectual Property Regime

10. Legislation for Anti-competitive and Unfair Trade Practice – have an idea of objectives of
MRTP ACT, 1969, Competition Act, 2002 and difference between them.

Course outcome: Students will able to understand basic aspects of contracts for making the agreements,
learn legitimate rights and obligations under The Sale of Goods Act, Companies Act, other different Acts,
understanding of the various provisions of the Indian Company Law.
