TWICE

Twice (en hangul, 트와이스; revised romanization in Korean, Teuwaiseu; stylized


as TWICE) it’s a South Korean girl group by JYP Entertainment through the program
called Sixteen. The group consists of nine
members.: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung y Tzuyu.
Twice officially debuted on October 20, 2015 with the release of the mini album The Story
Begins.

In 2016, Twice rose to stardom with the single Cheer Up, which topped the Gaon Digital Chart
as the most popular song of the year. of the most important awards in South Korea, the Melon
Music Awards and the Mnet Asian Music Awards. TT of the mini album Twicecoaster: Lane 1,
solidified the success of the group by staying for four consecutive weeks at the top of the Gaon
Digital Chart. The aforementioned album, it was the best-selling album by a girl group in 2016.
Nineteen months after their debut, Twice sold more than 1.2 million copies, through four mini
albums and one special album.

Chart, selling 136,157 copies in one
week, making it the best-selling album
by a K-pop artist in Japan.

Jeongyeon was born on November 1, 1996 in Suwon, under the name Yoo Kyung-
wan, she has two sisters, one of whom is South Korean actress Gong Seung Yeon
and her father is Yoo Chang-joon, the former president's cook. Kim Dae-jung.
Jeongyeon joined JYP Entertainment on March 1, 2010, so she underwent 5 years of
training before debuting. Initially, they planned for her to debut in a group called
6Mix with the current Twice members (Nayeon, Sana, and Jihyo), however
However, this project never came to fruition as two members withdrew before
debut. In 2015, Jeongyeon participated in the Sixteen program, a program aimed at
finding the members of the new group called Twice, where she was chosen as a
member of Twice in the last episode, finally debuting on October 20, 2015 with the
album The Story Begins.

(Nayeon) During her childhood, she participated in a child modeling contest,


drawing the attention of the agency JYP Entertainment, who sought to recruit her.
However, her mother prevented her from starting training and entering show
business right away due to her young age. On September 15, 2010, Nayeon
secretly attended the 7th JYP Entertainment Open Audition, after which she
became a trainee with the agency. In 2013, she was cast as a member of 6mix, a
new JYP girl group that was being planned but never debuted. He also made an
appearance in the second episode of the KBS2 Korean drama Dream High 2. In
2015, Nayeon participated in the reality television show Sixteen, a contest
designed to choose the founding members of Twice, the new group that would
debut the agency JYP Entertainment. As one of the nine winning contestants of
the competition, Im Na-yeon was able to join the newly formed girl group.

Momo Hirai was born in Kyōtanabe, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. She started dancing
at the age of three, along with her older sister. She had an early break in the South
Korean music industry, appearing in a music video for Lexy in 2008 and the talent
show Superstar K in 2011. Momo and her sister were originally spotted by JYP
Entertainment in an online video on 2012. Both were asked to audition, but only
Momo was successful, prompting her to move to South Korea in April 2012.
Before joining Twice, she danced in various music videos as a K-Pop Trainee. In
2015, she participated in the South Korean reality show Sixteen, hosted by JYP
Entertainment and co-produced by Mnet. Although she was initially eliminated in
the competition, she was brought back at the end of the competition and allowed
to join the newly formed group of Twice girls.

Sana was born on December 29, 1996 in Tennōji-ku, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture,
Japan. She is an only child in her family. She wanted to become a singer and
dancer, and was inspired by K-pop groups like Girls' Generation. In addition to
speaking Japanese as his native language, he also speaks Korean, having studied it
since moving to South Korea, and basic English. Sana began training with EXPG in
Osaka in 2009, originally planning to become a singer in Japan, rather than South
Korea. During her high school years, a JYP Entertainment employee discovered her at a
shopping mall and invited her to participate. at the annual JYP Japan audition which took place
the next day. Sana passed the audition and joined JYPE's training program in South Korea in
April 2012. She trained for over three years with JYP before her eventual Debut with Twice. At
one point she was expected to become a member of a new JYP girl group. In 2015, Sana
participated in the music survival show Sixteen, a reality television series designed to select the
members of Twice. Of the Sixteen contestants, Sana was selected as one of the nine members
of the newly formed girl group. She debuted with Twice in October 2015 with the song "Like
OOH-AHH" from their extended play "The Story Begins".

Jihyo was born on February 1, 1997 in Guri, under the name of Park Ji-soo. In
August 2004, Jihyo was chosen to be part of Naver's cast of child actors, where
she got second place, JYP Entertainment employees noticed her and offered her a
casting call. On July 15, 2005, she began her training at the agency as an actress.
Initially, she was preparing to debut as a member of 6Mix, along with Nayeon,
Jeongyeon, Minyoung, Lena, and Cecilia (later replaced by Sana), but as a result of
Lena and Cecilia's departure, the debut was ultimately cancelled. During his
training days, he appeared in commercials and video clips for other JYP artists. In
April 2015, it was announced that JYP, along with Mnet, would start a show titled
Sixteen, where sixteen trainees would compete for a spot on Twice, only seven of
whom would be on it. Jihyo was confirmed as one of the contestants. .
Throughout all the episodes, Jihyo was one of the most popular contestants and
in the finale, she managed to be one of the members of Twice. On October 20,
Jihyo debuted as a member and leader of the group with the release of The Story.
Begins.

Mina was born on March 24, 1997, in San Antonio, Texas, U.S, to
Japanese parents Sachiko (née Terao) and Akira Myoi. She moved to
Japan as a toddler and grew up in Nishinomiya, Hyōgo Prefecture,
Japan. Her father is an orthopedic surgeon at Osaka University Hospital
in Suita. She has one brother named Kai, who is five years older than
her. Mina trained in ballet from a young age, having practiced it for
eleven years before debuting with Twice. She attended Obayashi Sacred
Heart School in Takarazuka, Hyōgo until 2013. She did not graduate
because she moved to Korea to become a trainee.

In 2017, it was reported that Mina held dual Japanese and American
citizenship. However, as of 2019, she no longer holds U.S. citizenship,
as confirmed by the Quarterly Publication of Individuals Who Have
Chosen to Expatriate list published by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
In October 2015, Mina officially debuted as a member of Twice with the
release of their first extended play, The Story Begins. Its lead single "Like Ooh-Ahh" was
the first K-pop debut song to reach 100 million views on YouTube.

On July 11, 2019, JYP Entertainment announced that Mina would sit out the remainder of
the Twicelights World Tour due to her extreme anxiety and insecurity regarding onstage
performances. She was later diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. In February 2020, it was
reported that Mina's condition had improved and that she was ready to return to performing
live with Twice. On February 9, 2023, JYP announced that Mina, alongside bandmates
Sana and Momo, will officially debut in Japan on July 26 as a sub-unit named MiSaMo with
an extended play of six tracks. Prior to the trio's debut, on January 25, they released the
track "Bouquet" as part of the soundtrack of TV Asahi's drama series Liaison: Children's
Heart Clinic.

Dahyun was born in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, on May 28, 1998. She grew up
with her parents and has an older brother. At a young age, she began
singing with her Christian church choir. Dahyun first gained attention in sixth
grade in elementary school with a dance at church called the "eagle dance,"
which was posted on YouTube. Dahyun was recruited to become a trainee
for JYP Entertainment after a talent scout saw her performance at a dance
festival, and she subsequently trained with them for over three years.

In 2015, Dahyun competed in Sixteen, a reality television show to determine


the members of JYP Entertainment's new girl group. One of the nine
successful participants, Dahyun was subsequently selected to join Twice as
a singer and rapper. In October that year, she officially debuted with Twice
with the release of their extended play (EP), The Story Begins, and the lead
single "Like Ooh-Ahh".

Chaeyoung was born in Seoul, South Korea on April 23, 1999. She
took interest in performing arts from a young age and used to model
for a children's magazine. Chaeyoung decided she wanted to
become a singer before joining JYP Entertainment and took dance
lessons for over one year. At age 13, she passed the auditions and
ended up joining the company. Later in 2014 and 2015, she
appeared in the music videos for both Got7's "Stop Stop It" and Miss
A's "Only You". Chaeyoung participated in the reality television
competition Sixteen in 2015. Ranking sixth place out of the nine
debut spots, she went on to join the newly formed girl group Twice as
one of its rappers and singers. On October 20, 2015, Twice officially
debuted with the release of their first extended play (EP) The Story
Begins.

Chaeyoung became the first member of the group to receive writing


credits when she wrote a rap verse for Twice's version of J. Y. Park's
"Precious Love" as part of their 2016 EP Page Two. Since then,
Chaeyoung has participated in writing lyrics for multiple songs by
Twice. For the group's second Japanese studio album &Twice, on the
track "How U Doin'", Chaeyoung took part in composing for the first time,
making her the first member to do so. She also designed the limited-
edition cover of Page Two and three different pairs of SPRIS shoes.

Tzuyu was born in the East District of Tainan, Taiwan on June 14, 1999,
to self-made entrepreneurs. She started dancing from a young age and
trained at a dance academy.
In 2012, Tzuyu was discovered by talent scouts at the Muse Performing Arts Workshop in
Tainan, and moved to South Korea in November of that year to begin training. In 2015,
Tzuyu participated in the South Korean reality television show Sixteen, created by JYP
Entertainment and co-produced by Mnet. As one of nine successful participants, she went
on to join the newly formed girl group Twice Unlike the other winners of Sixteen, however,
Tzuyu was selected based on audience voting. In October 2015, Tzuyu officially debuted as
a member of Twice with the release of their first extended play, The Story Begins. Its lead
single "Like Ooh-Ahh" was the first K-pop debut song to reach 100 million views on
YouTube. Since then, she has worked as a presenter on multiple South Korean music
television shows. As a soloist, Tzuyu released covers of "Me!" by Taylor Swift and
"Christmas Without You" by Ava Max as part of the Melody Project series.

On December 19, 2012, JYP Entertainment announced that they would be debuting a new
girl group in the first half of 2013; this will be the next girl group created by the company
after they debuted Miss A in 2010.

On February 27, 2014, Lena and Cecilia were the first confirmed trainees to debut on 6MIX.
Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jisoo (later Jihyo) and Minyoung were rumored to be part of the group
as well. After Cecilia's departure, she was replaced by Sana, but when 6mix was about to
debut, Lena left the company and the group did not debut. As planned.

In 2015, producer J.Y. Park and founder of JYP Entertainment, announced that the
members of the new group would be decided through Sixteen, a survival show created to
determine the members of the new group. J.Y. Park explained through a press conference
that he expected the group to have a natural and pleasant character. Sixteen was a
survival show created by JYP Entertainment and Mnet. The show pitted sixteen JYP
Entertainment trainees against each other to secure a spot in the girl group Twice. Sixteen
began on May 5, 2015, and ended with Nayeon, Sana, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, Mina, Jihyo,
and Jeongyeon as the official members of Twice.
