NOTIFICATION Ph.D. ADMISSION TEST-03A- 2011


Applications are invited on or before 1st August 2011 from candidates who are interested in taking admission in the Ph.D programme of ML Sukhadia University against vacancies existing in various subjects. List of vacancies are given in appendixA. An entrance test for admission to PhD programme of the University will be held at University College of Social Sciences & Humanities on Sunday, 7th August 2011 at 10.00 am. All the candidates applied for Ph.D./M.Phil. Admission Test in response to our advertisement dated 2nd July 2011 are hereby informed that Admission Test for Ph.D. in Commerce & Management Subject will be held on 7th August 2011 whereas the Admission Test for M.Phil. in the commerce and Arts subjects(as notified earlier) will be held on 24th July 2011. However, candidates applied for M.Phil. but interested in appearing in the Ph.D. Admission Test shall be required to submit separate application form with prescribed fee.

Eligibility: Post-Graduate Degree in the relevant subject with minimum 55% marks
from a recognized university or should have qualified in an examination conducted by professional bodies leading to CA, CS, ICWA, PGDM approved by AICTE, New Delhi. A relaxation of 5% marks at the PG level will be given to SC/ST and physically handicapped students. Exemption: No candidates shall be exempted from Admission Test irrespective

whether they qualified UGC/CSIR NET(JRF)/M.Phil. Examination etc. Those candidates passed Ph.D. Admission Test of this university conducted on 15th May 2011 and those who have qualified in the Ph.D./M.Phil Admission Tests conducted on or after 15th May 2010 but not appeared in more than one Interview for allotment of supervisors shall be eligible to appear in the Interview along with candidates qualified in the current Ph.D. Admission Test.

*Vacancies in Journalism is subject to supervision by Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences working in the Inter disciplinary area Number of vacancies shown is maximum vacancies available under approved supervisors in the subject. Actual number of vacancies will be declared at the time of interview based on number of teachers in service. Actual number of vacancies in the faculty of Science will be declared at the time of interview by supervisors based on experimental facilities available in the department.

Note: Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post- graduation
only. The candidates whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list subjects given above may appear in a related subject. APPLICATION FORM, EXAMINATION FEE AND MODE OF PAYMENT:Application form for Ph.D Admisison test must be filled online from university web site www.mlsu.ac.in. After filling the on-line form, a print of the application form along with a with a crossed demand draft of Rs 500/-(Rs 250/- for SC/ST) in the name of Comptroller,MLSU, Udaipur payable at Udaipur must be submitted directly or by registered post in the Office of Dean PG Studies, University Administration Office, Udaipur 313039 on or before 1st August 2011, 3.00PM. Applicants will be required to upload their photograph. So a scanned photograph (jpg) of size (< 200kb) should be kept ready with them before filling online application form. SCHEME AND DATE OF TEST: I. The examination will consist of two papers. Paper - I
(a)For all subjects except subjects under Faculty of Science The questions shall be of general nature, intended to assess the research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. A total of 50 multiple choice questions (MCQ) will be set. There will be no negative marking. (b) For all subjects under Faculty of Science Paper I shall contain two parts. Part A: General Science: Part A of Paper I shall contain 40 General Science questions including computer awareness. These questions shall be common to all Science subject areas. Topics will be the same as that normally covered in secondary school as well as recent developments in science which a student of science is expected to know. A candidate shall be required to answer a maximum of 25 questions from Part A. In case a candidate answers more than 25 questions, only the first 25 answered questions will be taken up for evaluation. Part B of the paper I shall contain 25 questions to test reasoning ability, comprehension and divergent thinking to assess the research aptitude of the candidate.

Paper II
This paper will be separate for each subject and will consist two sections. The syllabus for this paper will be the same as that of UGC/CSIR NET examination. Syllabus and sample papers are available on the UGC, CSIR websites and also on the University web site www.mlsu.ac.in Section I: Ten questions will be asked across the syllabus. The questions will be definitional or seeking particular information and are to be answered in up to 30 words each. Each question will carry 5 marks (10 x 5 = 50 marks). There will be no internal choice. The questions in this section shall be numbered from 1 to 10. Section II: Essay writing Two questions with internal choice on general themes and contemporary, theoretical or of disciplinary relevance will be given. The candidate is expected to answer within a maximum of 500 words. The questions will be numbered as 11 & 12. Each question will carry 25 marks (Total marks: 2x25 = 50).

Roll numbers and names of candidates eligible for appearing in the entrance test will be published on the University web site on 5th August 2011.The list will also be displayed on the notice board of the University administrative office as well as at the examination centre. Candidates who have applied for the test will be required to download their admit cards from the university website from 5th August 2011 An OMR answer sheet will be provided for marking answers for Paper-I.
