PARENTS’ CONNECT
August 2023
1 August 2023
Dear Parents/Guardians,
In line with our theme for Term 3, our children have been practising self-leadership and showing the
‘Courage to Serve’ in their own little ways. At the school level, a Student Leaders’ Investiture was
conducted on 10 July for the team of P3 to P6 Prefects, CCA Leaders, Peer Support Leaders and CCE
Ambassadors to affirm their commitment to serve and contribute to the school. Led by the newly
augurated Head Prefect, Joy Lie from P5 Care, they will support the students in maintaining discipline in
the pursuit of excellence. Let us continue to remind our children to serve by showing care for others.
In August, our children can look forward to serving the nation as we celebrate National Day and showing
care for our teachers as we appreciate them on Teachers’ Day. The following are school activities that
will be conducted in the month of August.
As part of the school’s Applied Learning Programme to teach innovative thinking, the P4 students
will go through a programme to expose them to coding and computational thinking. Over a 2 full day
session, students will be taught to use coding skills to create an interactive game on Microbit through
the mathematical concept of Four Operations of Decimals. Besides developing their logical and
sequential thinking skills, the programme aims to relate students to the use of Mathematics in their
everyday life in a fun and constructive manner.
NAPFA Test is a fitness assessment tool adopted for the Primary 4 and Primary 6 level and it is
covered in the Physical Health and Fitness lessons as stipulated in the PE Syllabus. Fitness testing
ensures the need for fitness in our students’ lives and applying them in the context of physical
activities and sports. It helps us to evaluate our students’ strengths and areas for improvement. It
also serves as a tool to identify or enhance their general health.
P4 students will go through the 5 static test items (inclined pull-ups, sit-ups, sit and reach, standing
broad jump and shuttle run) on Thursday, 3 August, from 2.30pm to 5pm. We have been preparing
the students for the test during PE lessons by building their endurance from low intensity training
and progressing gradually (frequency, duration and intensity) towards the actual test. They are also
taught to set personal targets appropriate to their individual ability, with the focus on self-
improvement and developing lifelong habits for sustaining health and fitness.
3) National Day Celebration on Tuesday, 8 August
This year’s National Day Celebration marks the 58th Anniversary of our independence. The theme
Onward As One calls upon Singaporeans to look forward confidently and move onward together in
building our shared future as one united people.
On Tuesday, 8 August, our students will take part in an observance ceremony as part of the
celebrations. There will also be an assembly programme, singing of community songs and a mass
dance. Through the celebrations, we hope our students will strengthen their appreciation of our past,
celebrate our present and grow as one united people.
