The present simple tense is used to express

(i) habits 习惯
Example: I drink coffee every day.

(ii) facts 事实
Example: The sun is hot.

(iii) unchanging situations 不变的局面，

Example: The curry is hot and spicy.

1.2 The Present Continuous Tense

现在进行时

Positive They are running. It is raining.

Negative They are not running. It is not raining.

Interrogative Are they running? Is it raining?

The Present Continuous tense is used:

(i) To show action happening NOW 此刻

Example: Ali is coming out of his house now.

The children are not playing in the field now.

Why are you crying?

Read the letter aloud.
Dear Henry,
How are you? I have not spoken to you in a long time. Hope your
family is healthy and happy. I am writing you a letter from New Zealand. I
am currently on a holiday with my family.
The scenery is beautiful here. Every place that I point my camera at,
looks like something out of a painting. There is nature everywhere. I saw
fields of grazing sheep and snowy mountains. I dipped my feet into big lakes
and hiked in green and wild forest.
The food here is delicious too. They are famous for lamb shanks.
They also have restaurants that serve home-cooked style food. The kiwi
fruits here are so juicy, fresh, and sweet. I have been eating kiwi fruits
everyday.
Tomorrow, I will be taking my first snowboarding lesson. I am
nervous and excited at the same time. I am sure I will fall down many times
before I can stand up on my board and go down a hill smoothy. Wish me
luck.
I will see you in a week. I hope you’re having a relaxing holiday too.
