TOPIC: IMPACT OF STRATEGIC MARKETING ON ORGANIZATIONAL

PRODUCTIVITY

Introduction

Marketing is becoming increasingly necessary in today’s competitive business

environment. The traditional role of entrepreneurs of just being sellers is fast changing to that of

service oriented or customer-oriented. The idea that a business should sit on the corner passively

waiting for customers has gradually been replaced by the aggressive strategies to enhance

organizational productivity.

Marketing is defined as a grand of activities involved in ascertaining, cultivating,

satisfying and sustaining demand bearing in mind the firm’s objectives and the customer which

usually should start with a basic level of profitability plan. Cohen (2008) sees marketing as

encompassing the whole business. Thus, the aim of marketing is to understand the customer so

well that the product fits him and sells itself, to result in a customer who is ready to buy. It is also

aimed at satisfying customer needs and desire more efficiently and effectively. Hence marketing

has a universal application and banking is no exception.

The Role of Strategic Marketing application on the productivity of an organization is

synonymous with marketing in other service industries, but Strategic Marketing is predominantly

centred on the provision of diverse services to customers.

In Nigeria today, the present state of the economy and as it affects the financial sector in

particularly, has led business organizations to marketing as a serious activity which has hitherto

been neglected. In addition, the present economic scenario has made most banks to rejuvenate

their Strategic Marketing towards aggressive marketing.
