Accreditation: Valencia College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and Commission on Colleges (SAC-COC) to award degrees at
the Associate and Bachelor levels.
History: Valencia Junior College, founded in February 1967, was granted full accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1969. In 1971,
the name was changed from Valencia Junior College to Valencia Community College. Effective July 1, 2011, Valencia Community College name changed to Valencia
College.
Degrees Granted:
Advanced Technical Certificate & Applied Technology Diploma: Associate in Science & Associate in Applied Science: Two-year
Certificate awarded to Associate in Science degree students seeking a degree awarded to students who complete a program of specialized
specialized program of study to supplement their associate degree. study.
Associate in Arts: Two-year degree which includes required core and Bachelor’s Degree: Four-year degree. Effective August 2011, Valencia
general education credits. College began offering Bachelor’s degrees.
Grading Scales
*For the spring 2020 term, Valencia College included plus and minus grades for satisfactory and
unsatisfactory grades. Satisfactory and unsatisfactory grades are not computed in the grade point
average. S+ grades are equivalent to a grade of C or better and counts as credits earned in a
degree program. S- grades are equivalent to a grade of D and could count towards a degree
program or elective.
**R20 grades may be issued during declared emergencies. R20 grades are not computed in the
grade point average or used to satisfy degree requirements.
Transfer Credits: All undergraduate transfer credit, and credit awarded for examinations, including proficiency and challenge examinations, or earn credit through
testing administered by institutional faculty and approved by academic department are shown on the student record. An “X” before a subject prefix indicates a “non-
equivalent” transfer to a course.
Repeated Courses: A course in which a grade of “D” or “F” has been earned may be repeated. Multiple credit courses may be repeated for credit. (See course attempts
and withdrawals in the college catalog for repeatable courses.) Courses taken beginning fall of 1997 may only be attempted a maximum of three times for grade
forgiveness. Bachelor’s degree programs are limited to two course repeats for grade forgiveness for bachelor’s equivalent level courses that are transferred in or taken at
Valencia College.
Incomplete Grades: Coursework for a grade of “I” earned in one semester must be completed and the grade changed by the end of semester. Failure to change an “I”
grade to a grade of “A”, “B”, “C”, or “D” may result in a grade of “F”.
Course Type: I= include: courses that are included in the GPA calculation; E= exclude: courses excluded from GPA calculation. Blank space = courses that are
included in the overall GPA calculation.
Academic Achievements and Annotations on transcripts
Dean’s List for students who earn between 3.5 and 3.74 GPA in a semester.
Foreign Language Proficiency Met students who have completed two years of a sequential foreign language in high school or the equivalent at a college or
university.
GERM (General Education Requirements Met) courses completed in Communications, Humanities, Mathematics, Social Studies and Social Science.
Graduation Honors academic honors is awarded to students whose overall GPA is 3.75 or
higher as calculated for all terms prior to the term of commencement and includes transfer work.
President List for students who earn a GPA of 3.75 or higher in a semester.
