Ws-Motion in A Straight Line, Plane

The document is a physics worksheet containing 10 problems related to concepts like average speed, velocity, acceleration, projectile motion, and motion under constant acceleration. The problems involve calculating average speeds, velocities, times, distances, and accelerations given positional or time-based equations of motion. They also involve determining maximum heights, vertical velocity components, angles between vectors, and original distances between objects based on their motions and speeds over time.

1. A car travelled the first third of a distance x at a speed of 10 km/h, the second third with a speed of 20

km/h and the last third at speed of 60km/h. Determine the average speed of the car over the entire distance x.

2. A particle travels half of the journey with speed 2 m/s. For the second half of the journey, the particle

travels with a speed of 3 m/s for half of the remaining time, and for the other half it travels with a speed of 6

m/s. Find its average speed.

3.Displacement of a particle is given by the expression 3t2+7t where x is in meters

and t is in seconds. What is acceleration?

4.The displacement x of a particle moving in one dimension under the action of the constant force is related

to the time by the equation where x is in meters and t is in seconds. Find the

velocity of the particle at

(a) t = 3s (b) t = 6s.

5.Three balls thrown at different angles reach the same maximum height (fig. given), then

answer the following:

(a) Are the vertical components of the initial velocity the same for all the balls? If not, which one has the

least vertical velocity component?

6.What is the angle between the following pair of vectors?

A = î + ĵ + k̂, B = – 2î – 2ĵ – 2k̂

7.A projectile is fired horizontally with a velocity of 98 ms-1 from the top of a hill 490 m high. Find:

(i) the velocity with which it strikes the ground.

(ii) the time it takes to reach the ground.

(iii) the distance of the target from the hill.

8.A boy stands at 78.4 m from a building and throws a ball which just enters a window 39.2 m above the

ground. Calculate the velocity of the projection of the ball.

9.Two trains A and B of length 400 m each are moving on two parallel tracks with a uniform speed of 72

km/hr in the same direction, with A ahead of B. The driver of B decides to overtake A and accelerates by 1

m/s2 . If after 50 s, the guard of B just brushes past the driver of A, what was the original distance between

them?

10.A particle is moving along a straight line and its position is given by the relation

Find

a) The time at which velocity is zero.

b) Position and displacement of the particle at that point.
c) Acceleration
