Tell us a little about the developer community in your area.

The developer community in Nairobi is vibrant and active, with a wide range of events
and opportunities for individuals to learn and collaborate. However, despite this thriving
ecosystem, the students at my university are currently not exposed to it. This is an
opportunity to create a new Google developer community at my university, starting from
scratch and building it up to be a valuable resource for students. I am willing to take on
this challenge and grow the community by reaching out to other universities and local
communities. I plan to create a community that will provide students with access to the
latest tools and technologies, as well as opportunities for networking, mentorship, and
collaboration. I will use platforms like Google Meet and Google Groups to connect
members and organize events, and I will also reach out to local businesses and
organizations to form partnerships and provide real-world experience for our members.
In addition, I will also reach out to other universities and local communities to create
connections and collaborations, helping to create a wider ecosystem of support for our
members. This will not only benefit our members but also the local communities and
the industry as a whole. In summary, I am excited to start a new Google developer
community at my university and to connect students with the thriving developer
ecosystem in Nairobi. I am willing to take on the challenge of growing the community
from scratch and reaching out to other universities and local communities to create a
supportive and collaborative environment for all members.

Tell us a little about yourself and your technical background.

My name is Chakuothbel Gabriel, and I am a computer information systems student at
Kenya Methodist University. After studying about machine learning and artificial
intelligence, I developed an interest in programming. After several days of research, I
realized one needs a solid background in mathematics as well as a programming
language, preferably Python. The creativity I use to bring my own thoughts and dreams
to life is what motivated me the most to learn Python. I have a basic understanding of
variables, data types, control structures, functions, modules, and libraries in Python at
this point. I recognize that I still have a lot to learn about Python, but I'm eager to put in
the effort, commitment, consistency, and dedication necessary to advance as a
developer.

Why are you interested in starting a Google Developer Group?

Creating a GDG is a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people, exchange
knowledge, and enhance your career. It's a chance to create a community where
everyone can work together and support one another. GDGs gives people a platform on
which to share their knowledge and experience. Starting a GDG as a newbie
programmer could be an opportunity to learn from more seasoned developers and
assist other learners. Creating opportunities for individuals to learn and advance in their
jobs by starting a GDG is another fantastic opportunity to give back to the community.
As a result of Google's support for GDGs, developers get access to Google
Technologies, tools, and resources. GDGs offer a chance to keep up with the most
recent innovations and trends in the sector and inside Google Technologies.

Do you have any experience organizing events and community groups?

Conferences, meetups, and networking events are just a few of the events I've had the
chance to design and organize. One of my most memorable experiences was planning a
conference for a neighborhood nonprofit. I learned through this experience how crucial
good communication, planning a budget, and time management are. I had to work with
a variety of parties, such as sponsors, speakers, and volunteers, to make sure the event
went off without a hitch. Additionally, I've planned a number of networking and meetup
events for a trade association. I learned from this experience how important it is to
engage the attendees and properly promote the event. In order to reach a large
audience and foster a sense of community among the guests, I employed social media
and email marketing. I have event planning experience as well as community
management experience. For a professional association, I oversaw a social media
group where I had to monitor interactions with members, mediate disputes, and
regulate discussions. I've learned from this experience how crucial it is to foster a
friendly and inclusive environment for all participants. I feel that my background in
community management and event organizing has adequately qualified me to launch a
GDG. I have faith in my capacity to organize events, interact with members, and foster
an atmosphere that is encouraging and cooperative for all members. I can't wait to
contribute to the community and apply my knowledge and experience to the GDG.

What sort of events do you hope to run, and what do you hope people get out
of the group?
Technical workshops: Members can learn about a particular technology or
programming topic during these interactive sessions. Members or other presenters
could lead these workshops. Hackathons: These gatherings give participants the
chance to work on projects in teams and display their talents. A hackathon may be
restricted to members only or open to the general public, and it may be centered on a
particular technology or theme. Featured speaker events: Invited speakers at your GDG
can give your members insightful information and motivation. A variety of subjects,
including career guidance, the newest technologies, or case studies of actual projects,
could be covered in these sessions. Networking occasions: These occasions give
participants a chance to meet other members and business professionals. Events for
networking could be planned separately or in conjunction with other occasions. Study
groups: These gatherings give participants the chance to learn and collaborate on
particular subjects or technologies. Study groups might be established for a particular
subject or technology. Code-a-thons: These occasions give participants a chance to
work on coding problems and hone their problem-solving abilities. Code-a-thons may be
planned around a particular technology or subject. Showcase events: These occasions
provide participants a chance to present the work they have been doing. This might only
be accessible to members or the general public. In order for members to share their
knowledge and experience and learn from one another, I want to foster a helpful and
cooperative environment. In order to help members reach their career objectives, I want
to give them access to job prospects, mentorship, and other services. Generally I really
hope to inspire and have an impact in many lives.
