QUESTIONNAIRES FOR MS.

LYRA PUNSALAN

1. BASIC INFORMATION (Name, Age, Birthdate, Residence)

Lyra Guina Punsalan/ 20/ November 6, 200/ City of San Fernando, Pampanga
2. Describe yourself as a person.
I like to believe that I’m a jack-of-all-trades kind of person but really, I’m just seizing
every opportunity there is. I like trying new things wherein I could pour my heart out and
bring my creativity to the table.
3. Describe yourself as a beauty queen.
Very malleable and strong-willed, I would say. Entering the world of pageantry means
having to go through an endless process of improvement and I’m just truly grateful that
because of that, I’ve evolved from a faint-hearted little girl to a determined woman who
walks and talks with so much conviction.
4. 3 Words to describe your pageant journey so far, and why?
Unexpected, unusual and undefeated. That first word is no surprise already because the
world of pageantry is full of surprises itself. Every coronation night, the life of the hailed
queen is changed with a new chapter for her to discover— and I humbly say that my life
has been changed a few times now.
Unusual is for the part that I’ve been able to hold both crowns at different schools at the
same school year, and both are prolonged reigns because of the pandemic. I was crowned
Ms. SPCF in 2019 and Ms. HAU in 2020.
Lastly, I think the word undefeated explains itself enough. I hold the word with so much
pride and I continue to manifest it through the law of attraction.
5. How many pageants have you joined in total? How many of them did you actually win or
placed as a runner up?
8 pageants. 7 titles and 1 1st runner up.
6. What made you involved or inspired in the world of pageantry? Has this always been a
childhood dream?
I always doubted myself being a beauty queen when I was young because I used to be
completely shy, so it was just like a very distant and shallow dream back then. There has
only been a turning point when a few people really pushed me to try, and from there, I
found a voice within me that I never knew existed. I saw pageantry as a platform for
women to speak up and fight for causes that the world badly needs. It’s so inclusive, so
diverse and so full of life.
7. Where do you see yourself in the next few years in pageantry?
I’ve been currently busy juggling my way through school and work, so getting my degree
first is the goal. But I’ve also been preparing for the journey ahead. I’d like to keep the
picture of how I see myself in a few years’ time a secret for now, but I think it’s already
evident (haha).
8. What does it feel like to be the first ever communication arts student to win Miss HAU
and achieving this milestone during your freshman year?
Super otherworldly! I didn’t even know that I was the first comm-student to win the
crown until our chairperson posted about it and the moment I read it I was on cloud nine.
Achieving that milestone as a freshie was a parallel experience to my crowning moment
as Ms. SPCF the same school year, because I competed among college students while
being just a senior-high student. The stars really might have just aligned in my favor, I’d
say (hahaha).
9. What was the hardest struggle you’ve experienced?
Conquering the stage while conquering my anxiety is one of the hardest. There were just
moments where my mental health would really just shut down due to burnout. I had my
fair share of doubtful moments and tons of breakdowns in between, but that’s just it. The
3am trainings, the bruises, the literal blood, sweat and tears all become a blur every time I
think about my purpose and the people behind me who are making this little girl’s dream
come true.
10. The greatest lesson you’ve learned as a beauty queen.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and you are the beholder yourself. You are your own
foundation of many possibilities once you see yourself as beautiful.
11. What message can you give to young women who want to enter the pageant world?
Every beauty queen has a different journey for sure, so I don’t really have a concrete
message. But a few reminders would be to read the news and read a lot more of other
things. Beauty pageants are not all about beautiful faces now, but also beautiful minds.
And knowledge is power, you need that to conquer.
12. Any additional information you wanna provide.
Love you, loves!
