Short Circuit and Protection Calculation: 1 Content

This document contains a short circuit and protection calculation for the Lau Gunung project in Indonesia. It includes an overview of the project with a single line diagram showing two 6.3kV synchronous generators connected via step up transformers to a 20kV medium voltage switchyard. Protection devices for the generators and line connections are specified. Technical data is provided, including short circuit current values received from the grid operator for the 20kV level without generators operating. Short circuit calculations will be performed at all points to determine maximum, minimum, and phase specific short circuit current values. Protection settings will then be defined for the generators, transformers, and grid connection.

2 Overview
2.1 General
This document contains the short circuit and protection calculation for project Lau Gunung
(Indonesien).
Two Francis turbines with 6,3kV synchronous generators connected via step up transformers to the
20kV Medium voltage switchyard.
Synchronization will be done at the 20kV level.
The step-up transformers (6,3//20kV; 3x 9,3MVA; YNd11) have the star point at high voltage side
connected to one common neutral grounding resistor (80Ohm).

Situation of Grid Conditions from Client:

1. On normal operation, both line feeder are closed and coupler open, 1 outgoing supply to
Sidikalang Substation and the other supply to Brastagi Substation, on other word, the turbine
operate independently.

2. if one of the substation (Sidikalang or Brastagi) need more supply or other reason, both turbine
should synchronized and supply to one point only (Coupler Closed)

3. they will never supply to both substation if Coupler is closed.

4. The consultant ask 2 NGR from the very beginning, I also don’t know the exact reason. I guess
this regarding to independent operation of each turbine.
