CASE FACTS:
1. The company is Savaria Ltd., is an engineering-based business company in
the Hyderabad headquarters that conducts business both in India and
internationally.
2. The corporation conducts business in five different industries: space,
engineering construction, healthcare equipment, and thermal power
machinery for the federal government.
3. Tomy is the main character in the case. He was a coordinator for the Project
Planning and Project Execution Departments, but neither Department
regarded him as an employee, so he answered directly to the Chief
Managing Director (CMD).
4. The corporation began an initiative in 2009-2010 to switch to information
technology (IT) enabled processes and systems; as a result, its dependence
on technology expanded.
5. Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) software has taken the place of
conventional ERP software. SAP made Tomy's position unnecessary by
enabling automatic coordination between the two departments.
6. Tomy thereafter spent more than ten years working as a "Dignified Clerk."
Additionally, he began to receive negative feedback in his performance
review, and this pattern persisted for a while. Tomy felt rejected by the
business and that he wasn't treated with the respect he deserved.
7. Finally, CMD terminated him in 2018, giving him a 6-month notice period.
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
1. Tomy was a senior employee at Savaria limited. What are the various factors
which affected his career level of tomy and factors which are responsible for his
low performance during the past few years.
2. After the termination whether Tommy will be able to find a job with his
experience and expectations.
EVALUATION OF ALTERNATIVES:
1. Tommy felt that he been ostracized by other employees. He always
considered his past glories and didn’t care about the present changes
taking place and he had a monotonous attitude towards others colleague
and many of them started to neglect him. To solve this issue his HR
manager can send tommy to a counselling session where counsellor can
highlight the weakness of tommy.
2. After 2008 the automation sector declined from there tommy faced
problems. His main job was to coordinate the both the departments.
Introduction of various software like SAP made the reporting system
easier and made the job of tommy obsolete. Even in the case tommy
didn’t take any efforts to update his skills to the current trends. So, for his
career advancement from now onwards he should start working on to
develop these skills.
3. the case tommy organizational commitment was too high but the job
involvement was very low. Even the company gave so much of
trainings. But the problem was in the attitude of tommy. His never
minded about the dynamic changes taking place. So, the alternative his
tommy must change his attitude and he must learn all the changes taking
place in the environment and adapt according to the latest trends.
EVALUATION OF ALTERNATIVES:
So, Tommy must change his attitude he always thinks about his glories past.
In the dynamic world he must subsequently adapt to the latest trends and he
must have strong emphasis on learning. Apart from learning he must apply
the learning in the organization which will contribute to his performance
further. So, if he changes his attitude and if he learns the latest technology,
he will be able to find a better job. Current learnings and past experience will
place a men in good positions today in the corporate world.
