Installation in split grooves is problem-free. The sequence

The sizing mandrel should be made from a polymer material
(e.g. polyamide) with good sliding characteristics and high

it has a sufficiently long lead-in chamfer.

FRICTION
0 psi 1500 psi
The friction force of U-Cups dramatically increases between
362 and 1,450 psi. The Zurcon®U-Cup RU9 has a unique
feature. As the system pressure increases, the contact surface
between the U-Cup and the piston rod increases. Once a
specific system pressure is reached, the seal deforms to such
an extent that its entire friction-generating inside surface gets
in contact with the piston rod. Due to the special design of
3750 psi 6000 psi
Zurcon®U-Cup RU9 there is improved pressure distribution on
the rod. The resulting tribological benefits restrict the increase
in friction. When we compare the friction values of conventional
U-Cups with those of the Zurcon®U-Cup RU9 the results are
self-evident.

DESCRIPTION
The single-acting Zurcon®Buffer Seal LM is designed as
a heavy-duty primary rod seal. The design of the product
incorporates a combination of a Zurcon®sealing ring with a
Back-up Ring. By utilizing two materials, the performance of the
product is enhanced and life is extended.

In order to be in a position to select the most appropriate seal
type and material, it is necessary to first define all the desired
functional parameters. Table 41 can then be used to make an
initial selection of seals according to the specific requirements
of the application.
The final choice of seal type and material must also take into
account the detailed information on the seal elements.

Turcon®Excluder®5
Description TECHNICAL DATA
The Turcon®Excluder®5 is a patented double-acting scraper Velocity: 50 ft/s (15 m/s) for Turcon®materials
with two geometrically different scraper lips which are installed 6.5 ft/s (2 m/s) for Zurcon®materials
back-to-back. The scraper is installed together with an O-Ring
Temperature: -49 °F to +392 °F (-45 °C to +200 °C)
as the elastic energizing element in one groove. The scraper
(Turcon®)
function is performed by the Excluder®5. The O-Ring maintains
-49 °F to +230 °F (-45 °C to +110 °C)
the pressure of the scraper lips against the sliding surface and
(Zurcon®)
can compensate for deflections of the piston rod.

contrast to the Excluder®2, the Excluder®5 is used for heavy
duty applications such as construction machinery, presses, O-Ring: NBR, 70 Shore A N or N7
etc.
Set Code: T46N or T46N7
- Outstanding sliding properties For other applications, other material combinations as listed in
Table 98 may also be used.
- Stick-slip-free (Turcon®material)

Description MATERIAL
In current hydraulic cylinder design, O-Ring or O-Ring/Back-up
Standard material: Zurcon®Z20 polyurethane 93 shore A,
Ring combinations are mainly used as static seals. However,
turquoise. Suitable for all HL and HLP
this sealing solution hides the risk that during assembly the
hydraulic fluids.
O-Ring may become twisted and that the position of the Back-
up Ring is not optimal. This solution also exhibits weaknesses
with regard to pressure pulsation and the ingress of dirt.
ADVANTAGES
The Dualseal as a single component static hydraulic seal Compared with the O-Ring / Back-up Ring combination, the
offers a good alternative in such cases. Dualseal offers the following advantages:
APPLICATIONS
LEAD-IN CHAMFERS
The Dualseal allows general use in hydraulic cylinders:
Groove depth < .12 inches (3 mm) .12 inches x 15°
(3 mm x 15°) - Fork lifts
Groove depth > .12 inches (3 mm) .20 inches x 15° - Mobile hydraulics
(5 mm x 15°)
- Industrial hydraulics
PREFERRED SEALING GAP - Machine tools
Bore H8 - Injection molding machines
Gland g6
- Hydraulic presses
Due to the high extrusion resistance of the seal a radial - Cartridge valves
sealing gap (S) of .008 inches (0.2 mm) can be realized.
Dualseal performs leak-free and is highly extrusion resistant
In case of low temperature applications, deviations of the
