Living in current circumstances, an explosion of internet users has risen up day by day making a
wide range of opportunities for businesses nowadays to ensure that their goals are achievable. The same
goes for the baking industry, these businesses will either use applications or websites as their medium
indicator for online consumers. Cake must be categorised as art or unique dessert since the appearance
itself must be in the way it should be with high quality of flavour. In the same perspective, the cake
must include creativity, precise and well presented in terms of designing, the structure of the cake and
the taste itself.
First and foremost, there are lots of issues that could contribute towards cake customization where
ordering and delivering errors is one of the elements. Nowadays scenarios, when two sides do not attain
the equivalent order, it would eventually not excel for the outcomes of the dessert since taking orders
manually and filling in the order through excel sheets can lead to this kind of error where the staff or
customer makes a mistake while entering the data (Jacob, 2017). For instance, in the midst of a busy
environment, people do not have time to start their engines, wasting their fuels, queueing for an order,
asking for a creative decoration and others where it is such time-consuming. Hence, it could lead to a
low satisfaction level where the taste and preference do not meet the expectation based on the
production. In the same context, it showed that the businesses are in poor management and do not have
a well-oriented ordering system; it would not bring great feedback from the customer.
Furthermore, the majority of the customers do not notice the operation time of the cake shop.
They tend to come to the cake shop to order the cake without knowing that the cake shop is closed.
Therefore, unable to reach customers during the off day is one of the cake shop’s most concerns (Jacob,
2017). These issues also lead to a decrease in sales since customers will search for another cake shop
that opens on that particular day and this makes the cake shop lose customers to others. The sales also
cannot be increased due to the order that can be made by the bakery has its own limit as all the orders
are taken manually by the staff.
Finally, a problem that cake shops face is deficiencies in various options. Customers that make an
order from the cake shop have limited choices of cakes and designs to choose from (Nimsarkar, 2020)
Customers have limited ideas where they usually like to order from what they saw on the internet in
hopes that the cake shop can understand what they want. This is understandable as designated cake has
become the most chosen type of cake for any kind of occasion, especially birthday cake. Based on the
chart below shows that 26.3 percent of designated cakes represent the biggest group in the U.S industry
(Wunsch, 2017).
