Release Note

Airmux-5000, Airmux-400
Version 4.9
November 21, 2018 Status: General Availability

Airmux-5000 is a carrier-class, cost-effective point-to-multipoint broadband wireless system,

delivering up to 750 Mbps Ethernet service per sector. It includes Base Stations (BS) and Subscriber
Units (SU) for transmitting over an extensive range of frequency bands: 2.5 GHz, 3.3 to 3.8 GHz and
4.9 to 6.0 GHz.
The system is suitable for deployment in FCC, ISED and ETSI regulated countries.
Ensuring the highest spectrum efficiency available in the market, Airmux-5000 delivers greater
throughput over smaller channel bandwidth.
Airmux-5000 point-to-multipoint radios provide high capacity base station, greater spectrum
efficiency and robust performance in harsh conditions. Airmux-5000 radios enable service providers
to offer and meet agreed-upon service level agreements (SLAs) for bandwidth demanding users or
applications or Best-Effort service level for residential applications.
Airmux-5000 radios support an extensive range of frequency bands in the same unit facilitating
flexible radio planning.
Airmux-400 is a carrier-class, cost-effective multiple point-to-point broadband wireless transmission
device. It operates in 5.1 to 6.0 GHz bands complying with FCC, ETSI, ISED and MII regulations.
Airmux-400 offers high throughput, longer range and robustness at a competitive price for the
global markets of cellular backhaul, WiMAX and ISP backhaul, broadband access, large private and
government networks.
All types of Airmux-400 ODUs can be ordered with optional anti-salt coating for installation in harsh
marine environments.
Airmux is a complimentary addition to RAD’s Service Assured Access and Service Assured Networking
solutions. The portfolio combines extensive support for legacy services with future-proof Ethernet
capabilities to address the challenges faced by utilities, transportation networks, carriers, and
mobile operators in migrating to next-generation networks and services with flexibility, efficiency
and carrier-class reliability.
This release note includes the following products of the Airmux-400 family:
• Airmux-400H
• Airmux-400A
• Airmux-400P
• Airmux-400SP.
Airmux-400, Airmux-400L and Airmux-400LC product releases are described in a separate release
note.

Version 4.9
Release 4.9.60 is a GA release for the Airmux-5000i product family. Release 4.9.60 introduces a
next-generation air interface, which brings new features and capabilities. It introduces new
Subscriber units and supports the AIR and PRO product families in 5GHz band.

New Features
Features Description Customer Benefits
IPv6 for • Further flexibility for
- The radio can be managed over IPv6 or
management management
IPv4 (dual stack)
(SU)
Software - The software upgrade can be performed • The HTTP option allows an
upgrade over over FTP or HTTP. Default software easier and more intuitive way
HTTP (SU) upgrade is over FTP to manage the SU
Note 1: This feature is implemented in the
Airmux Manager and can be applied also on
previous versions (e.g., software upgrade
from version 4.9.35 with manager 4.9.60,
can use this capability)
Note 2: “Indirect mode” is not supported
under software upgrade over HTTP

New/Updated Products
Due to the updated ISED (former IC) regulation, effective April 1st 2018, most products formerly
supporting FCC and ISED regulations will be divided into 2 products each supporting FCC and
updated ISED regulations, respectively. Some of the former FCC/ISED supporting products will have
no ISED-supporting analog. These new/updated products are listed in the table below.

Release Note

Airmux-5000, Airmux-400
Version 4.9
Issue Description
Supported frequency - ETSI SU AIR/PRO:
- CBW 10M: 5.740GHz – 5.860GHz
- CBW 20M: 5.745GHz - 5.855GHz
In case the sector frequency is outside the supported
frequency, the SU AIR/PRO will not be able to
synchronize.
Airmux-5000/SU-Pro, Airmux-5000/SU-Air
supported band at ETSI 5.8GHz Workaround: Change the frequency of the sector to
be within the supported frequencies of the SU
AIR/PRO.
When SU detects a radar signal, it stops transmission
on detected frequency for 30 min and loses
synchronization with the HBS.
Workaround: Change the frequency on the HBS.
VLAN ID 0,1 behavior when using Airmux-5000/SU-
Pro, Airmux-5000/SU-Air:
- Downlink frames with VLAN ID 0,1 (any priority) are
changed to untagged frames (No VLAN)
- Uplink frames with VLAN ID 0,1 (priority 0) are
changed to untagged frames (No VLAN)
VLAN behaviour - Uplink frames with VLAN ID 0 (priority >0) are
changed to VLAN ID 1
- Uplink frames with VLAN ID 1 (priority >0) are
changed to (VLAN ID 1)
In case the network consists of mixed
Airmux-5000/SU-Pro, Airmux-5000/SU-Air and other
HSU types, the above behaviour will appear only in
the Airmux-5000/SU-Pro, Airmux-5000/SU-Air
terminals
The following features are not supported or limited in
this release, and should not be used:
Feature support limitations
- QOS TTL is not supported
- Air Interface Utilization
Configuration restore from ODU running GEN3 S/W
version (release before 4.9.0) to ODU running GEN4
Configuration restore between releases
S/W version (4.9.0 and higher) is working without
HSU Registration (field is grayed out)
