Module-1

BIOSPHERE & ITS ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Answer Sheet

General Instruction
1. Download the Module 1- Biosphere & Its Environmental Issues PDF File.
2. Put your answers in this Answer Sheet.
3. You can either make the diagrams electronically (using Loopy Tool or other diagramming
tools) or manually through handwriting. If you manually create the diagrams on paper, you
can scan them and paste them into this Answer Sheet.
4. You will submit a PRINTED COPY of this ACTIVITY SHEET.

TASK 1: Finding Causes and Effects of Environmental Issues

1. Basic Information About the Environmental Issue
Write here the basic and essential information you gathered through searching. Please properly
cite the reference where you get the information. Paste all the references or links in the last part of this
Answer Sheet.

Overexploitation of natural resources, urbanization, climate change, and pollution collectively

pose grave threats to biodiversity. Overharvesting and habitat destruction from urban growth, alongside rising
temperatures and ocean acidification driven by pollution, lead to species extinctions, habitat loss, and
ecosystem disruption. This endangers genetic diversity, increases vulnerability to diseases, and disrupts vital
ecological relationships. Urgent action is imperative to promote sustainability, protect ecosystems, and integrate
biodiversity conservation into urban planning to safeguard both nature and humanity and maintain the planet's
delicate balance.

2. Cause Variables and Effect Variables

Write here all the cause variables and effect variables you identified after gathering information
about the environmental issue you chose. Review your hand-out on the Different Systems Thinking Tools
about the points to remember in labeling/naming the variables you identified. Some effect variables
become cause variables when it affects other parts or variables within a system.

Cause Variables
-Urbanization
-Over-Exploitation
-Pollution
-Climate Change

-Education and Awareness

-International Agreements

Effect Variables

-Biodiversity Loss & Extinction

-Habitat Destruction
-Climate Change

-Wildlife Conservation Efforts

-Sustainable Development & Planning
TASK 2: Drawing the Connections

3. Describing or Characterizing the Relationships Among the Variables

a. Choose one cause variable and one effect variable.
b. Describe or characterize their relationship by creating a Causal Link. Follow the steps
in creating a Causal Link in your hand-out and on the recorded video tutorial. You can
use the “Loopy Tool” to make the diagrams.
c. Repeat this for the remaining cause variables and effect variables you identified.
d. Do not forget to put labels or signs on the arrows of your causal links.

4. Creating a Connection Circle Diagram

a. Try to put around a circle all the variables you identified which have relationships.
b. Follow the steps on how to make a Connection Circle Diagram in your hand-out and on the
recorded video.
c. Continue identifying relationships among the variables around the circle.
d.Try to spot or recognize if there is any feedback loops formed in your connection circle.
e. If any feedback loop is formed, create a separate causal loop diagram for each feedback loop you
identified.

5. Creating a Causal Loop Diagram

a. If you found any feedback loop in your connection circle diagram, create a causal loop
diagram for each feedback loop.
Yes, Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss & Extinction
b. Label your causal loop diagram, which is now your simple causal loop diagram.
c. Describe the relationships among the variables which formed the feedback loop.
That feedback loop as a positive feedback loop wherein Climate Change and
Biodiversity Loss & Extinction effects cycles to get perpetually worse
d. Try to include the other variables you identified and connect them with your simple
causal loop diagram to make a more complex interconnection of the variables.

6. What important insight, realization, or information can you get from the causal loop you
created about the environmental issue you studied?
Our realization is that if climate change continues both biodiversity and climate change will progressively worsen
for they are in a positive feedback loop, additionally the cooperation of international government bodies to
preserve and protect wildlife or the environment in general is truly necessary for a long term guarantee.

Also Education and Awareness biodiversity loss in particular is vital for conserving Earth's diverse ecosystems
and the myriad species that inhabit them. Understanding the consequences of biodiversity decline, including
ecosystem instability, reduced resilience to climate change, and the loss of potential medical and agricultural
resources, motivates individuals, communities, and policymakers to take action. Furthermore, education fosters
sustainable practices, such as responsible consumption and habitat protection, which are essential for
safeguarding the planet's ecological balance and ensuring a healthy environment for current and future
generations.

7. Please prepare a material (electronically or handwritten) that can help you present your diagram
to the class.
8. As you present, Please provide facts and findings from research related to the environmental issue
assigned to your group.
9. Submit a PRINTED COPY of this Answer Sheet.

environmental issue assigned to you.)
