2. Hazards identification
Main hazardous: Risk of serious damage to eye. Dry cement powders in normal use have no harmful effect on the dry skin.
However, when cement is mixed with water, Alkalis are released which can be harmful. Contact with wet cement or wet mortar may
cause irritation, dermatitis or burns.
3. Composition/information on ingredients
General information:
In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical advice. In case of unconsciousness give nothing by mouth, place in
unconscious position and seek medical advice.
Following inhalation:
Move victim to fresh air. Put victim at rest and keep warm. In case of irregular breathing or respiratory arrest provide artificial
respiration.
After skin contact:
Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. Do not use
solvents or thinners.
Following eye contact:
IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
Seek medical advice.
After ingestion:
If swallowed, rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious). Consult physician immediately. Keep victim calm. Do not
induce vomiting.
5. Firefighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media: Non-Combustible. Select extinguishing agent appropriate to other materials involved.
Special exposure hazards arising from the substance itself, combustion products, resulting gases: None.
Environmental precautions: Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses.
Methods for cleaning up: Avoid creating dust. Sweep up into suitable containers for recovery or disposal.
Handling information for safe handling: Avoid inhaling dust. Exposure by inhalation or skin contact should be minimized by good
industrial hygiene practices. Use in well-ventilated area.
Storage Requirements for storerooms and containers: Storage area should be cool & dry.
Information about storage in one common storage facility: Keep away from strongly acidic and alkaline materials as well as
oxidizers.
Engineering control measures: Material to be used safely. Every effort should be made to prevent air borne dust arising during
mixing operations.
Body Protection: Protective clothing should be worn which ensures that cementitious materials do not come into contact with
the skin. Particular care should be taken to ensure that wet mortar does not enter shoes.
9. Physical and chemical properties

Eye irritation: Cement is a severe eye irritant. Gross exposures or untreated mild exposures can lead to chemical burning and
ulceration of the eye.
Skin irritation: Cement and/or water/cement mixtures may cause irritant contact dermatitis, allergic (chromium) dermatitis
and/or burns.
Appropriate disposal/Product: As an inert material it may be disposed of via an approved solid waste disposal facility.
Contaminated packaging disposal: Empty packaging may be disposed along with normal builder’s waste via an
authorized waste contractor.
Sea transport: Not classified as a dangerous good under transport regulations IMDG
Air transport: Not classified as a dangerous good under transport regulations
