OTE LMT
User Guide

1. GENERAL
The purpose of this guide is to provide information about the installation of the Local
Management Terminal, its start-up and operations.
The LMT is a Windows application that monitors, configures and controls the OTE D100-4
equipments through the RS232 serial line. The LMT controls the radio equipment using the
O&M protocol. Messages are transmitted and received through the RS232 serial line or TCP/IP
socket connection according to the DIAG protocol.

Important Note

The LMT 1.3.7.0, described in this User Guide can be used for the following equipment
baselines:
- OTE D100 – VHF, VHF 25W and UHF 7.4.6.0 and higher.
- OTE DTR100 – VDL 1.0.7.0 and higher.
- OTE D100-4 – VHF and UHF 1.2.0.1 and higher.
- DTR100 – VoIP, VHF and UHF 1.6.1.0 and higher.
The use of this LMT version for previous equipment baselines is not recommended.
In this case the equipment could not be able to support some LMT functions. Moreover in the
LMT status bar some failure reports may appear, that do not allow a complete use of the
LMT application.

Note

Generally, the windows showed and explained in this User Guide are referred to the
transceiver version of the equipment.
The LMT may be used also with Transmitter and Receiver. In these cases some interface
windows or some parameters, described in this User Guide, may be not present.

Note

The LMT may be used with OTE D100 UHF and VHF radio equipments and in these cases
some interface windows or some parameters may be different.
Where differences are present it will be clearly specified with phrases as “UHF version” or
“VHF only” etc.
Where there are no comments this means that the interface is the same for all versions.

Note

Some interface windows or some parameters may be different according to equipment

series, models and operational modes.

1.2 MAIN TASKS DESCRIPTION

The LMT is an application that monitors, configures and controls SELEX Elsag OTE D100 radio
equipment for Aeronautical Radio Communications, in all the various series (OTE D100 & OTE
D100-4), models and configurations (DTR, DT and DR, VDL, VoIP) via two available
communication interfaces:
 an RS232 serial line (available with all OTE D100 series and models)
 a TCP/IP socket interface (available only on OTE D100-4 series, or on OTE D100
models equipped with the MSIC control and interface card)
The LMT controls the equipment devices using the “DTR100 O&M” protocol.
In order to transmit and receive the O&M messages to/from the controlled device, the LMT
implements
 the DIAG protocol over the RS232 serial line.
 the TCP/IP protocol stack over standard IEEE802.3 “Ethernet” connections.
The application may be seen as composed of three levels:
 User Interface level. It is composed of main windows.
 Setting window
 Alarms window
 Measurement window
 Calibration window

Each window is able to read the device status, the measures and the configuration data from
the device data level. Any number of pop-up windows can be used to modify configuration
data present on the setting window.
When users set a new parameter value, the application checks the new parameter to be
coherent with the current device’s configuration, and displays error messages in case of
wrong setting.
When the user selects the Measure window, the O&M protocol module enables the request
of measures form the controlled device. When the user switches to a different window, the
O&M module stops the measures updating.
The User Interface allows the selection of the communication port and operating parameters
 COM port number, speed, data bits, parity and flow control, for the serial RS232.
 IP Address and TCP port socket connection
 Device Data and Protocol level. This level maintains communication with the connected
device, periodically requesting device status.
Measures and configuration data, depending on which of the User Interface window is
displayed on screen, to update proper information storage structures in RAM. The Protocol
level uses link information coming respectively from the DIAG or the TCP protocol, to verify
connection with controlled device.

1
Serial communication level . At communication level, the DIAG protocol module provides
an upper layer messages transport and interface application to the serial communication
line.

3.4 SETTINGS ENVIRONMENT

The settings environment can be monitored at any moment by clicking on the relevant Settings
tab on the Default window.
The Settings Environment is composed of many windows that may be browsed by clicking on
the relevant tab. These windows group the radio parameters. Some of these parameters are
available only for monitoring (the most critical ones), while others may be also edited in order to
customize the radio configuration.
On the LMT interface, the editable parameters are represented in black colour and the non-
editable parameters are represented in gray colour. Moreover some parameters may change
their availability (editable or non editable) according to the status of the control session (OPEN,
CLOSED) and to the status of the equipment (ON LINE, OFF LINE, FAULT, DOWNLOAD, etc).

Important Note
The actions described within this User Manual are limited to the editable parameters and it is
suggested to refer to the corresponding OTE D100 Technical Handbooks in order to have
further details on all parameters’ meaning.

Attention
In any case, before changing the parameters value it is recommended to refer to OTE
D100 Technical Handbooks, where an in-depth description of all main parameters is
given.

The following figures show the window related to a DTR100 equipment for standard AM Voice
applications. In the Settings environment related to the other equipment models (e.g. VDL,
VoIP), some tags and parameters may differ, there may be additional ones, or they may be not
present.

Insert the new parameters and click on button.

Important note:
In order to set the frequency value according to the Frequency Priority it is mandatory to set
the 255 value for the channel. In fact when the channel value is 255, the radio equipment
does not follow the Frequency – Channel association. After setting, when the OK button is
clicked, in General window, the channel assumes the 255 value and the frequency value is
updated according to setting.
In order to set the frequency value according to Channel Priority, set the Channel value
(from 0 to 119). After setting, when the OK button is clicked the channel and frequency
values in General window will be updated according to the Frequency to Channel
association as in the Freq. Programming window (ref also to § - 3.4.13).

 To set Mode, Status, Antenna Output Configuration and Clock Source, double click the side
field and the relevant set window appears. Select the desired value and click on
button.

When the radio is in ONLINE status the panel is present on the Status Panels.

When the radio is in OFFLINE status the panel is present on the Status
Panels.

NOTE:
In the following chapters the tables that list the control parameters also specify whether
the relevant parameter can be edited when the equipment is in the ON LINE and/or in the
OFF LINE status.

Note on SSV parameters

The parameters are all grouped in the lower right side of the window, in the “Signal Strength Voltage”
box.
The P1, P2 and P3 represent the coordinates as shown in the following figure and the R Load is the load
23
resistance connected to the SSV output.

The order of the points P1 and P3 is not important, P1 may be lower than P3 or vice versa; P2 must
always be the intermediate point and it may be “Not defined” (if the transfer function between the RF
input and the SSV output is represented by a straight line).
The admitted ranges for the SSV output configuration parameters are given in the following table.

Parameter Min Max

RF input (P1, P2, P3) -120 dBm +10 dBm
SSV output (P1, P2, P3) 100 mV 6000 mV
R Load 5.6 kOhm 1000 kOhm

Moreover the max admitted voltage difference (available dynamics) between P1 and P3 is 4500 mV.
This value, if the load resistance is present, must be reduced according to the following:
Available dynamics = 4500 * R load / (R load + 0.56),
where R load is the value of the load resistance expressed in kOhm.

23
It is important to insert the value of the load resistance connected to the SSV output. If this value is not inserted, it is
considered infinite and, since the SSV output resistance is different than 0 (it is 560 Ohm), the SSV output may be
afflicted by an error.

Parameter Value Description

Plurichannel Mode Enabled/Disabled Enables or disables the EGSC functionalities
VCS GTR 100 or DRC Only if Plurichannel Mode is enabled, this
communication IP parameter sets which protocol will be used to
protocol communicate with VCS for remote control.
GTR 100 supports legacy VCS that uses
serial RS232. DRC IP will support VCS with
VoIP functionalities for remote control over
UDP/IP.
AF 100 TRX Enabled/Disabled Only if Plurichannel Mode is enabled, this
presence parameter enables or disables the AF Filter.

To set parameters double click the relative field and the relevant set window appears. Select the
desired value and click on button.

Attention:
This operation must be authorized by SELEX Elsag and may be done with a correspondent
hardware action (refer to the relevant OTE D100 Technical Handbooks for further details).

Moreover this window can also be used to enable/disable the alarms related to the power
supply.
This operation is recommended when the radio equipment is not powered by both the AC and
DC supplies, but only by the AC one.

In fact, when the DC supply is not present, if the “PS DC Fail” box is enabled, the
panel will be always present, although in reality the radio is working correctly; if the “PS DC Fail”
box is disabled, the Alarm panel disappears.

 To set the channel frequency association double click the Frequency field you want to
change. The following window appears.

 Scroll to the desired value for Frequency, by means of the up/down arrows, and click on the
button to confirm the operation.

NOTE:
The channel frequency association value, as here configured, has priority over the setting
that can be done from the Settings-General window (refer to § - 3.4.1 for details), effectively
overriding it.

already connected.
The “VCS Checklist control” enables or disables the VCS Permission check list configured.
The “Receiver Muting” enables or disables the muting of receiver when PTT signal is received
on Receiver Equipment (e.g. DR100).
The “PTT Mode” sets the mode of handling the PTT: Lockout or Summation.
The “Jitter Compensation” sets the jitter compensation delay on transmission path. The
default value of 10 ms assumes that the network is working in an optimal condition, in
general it is recommended to use a greater value for jitter compensation (e.g. 40 ms).
The “Clock reference” enables or disables the synchronization to a NTP server for the RTP
protocol. If Clock reference is enabled, the NTP Server address must be configured in the Clock
reference section of LMT tool.
The “Max Confirmation Delay” specifies the maximum delay to send the feedback of new PTT
state (including the PTT Mute), on receiving path.
The “PTT Packet Timeout” specifies the timeout to disable the PTT (including the PTT Mute) if
RTP packets are not received. From the FAA Interoperability event experience Error!

ANNEX A: IMC UPGRADE

The procedure described in this section is not applicable in OTE D100 VDL and VoIP models,
nor in the OTE D100–4 series.
The upgrade of the IMC is not possible by the LMT. For this task, it is necessary to use a
terminal emulator program such as Teraterm Pro 2.3 47. All the following screenshots are
referred to the use of Teraterm Pro.

A.1 PRELIMINARY ACTIONS

 First to proceed with IMC upgrading it is important to make note of some parameters that
may be lost when the current IMC application SW will be replaced. It is necessary to take
note of those figures, in order to set them again at the correct values at the end of upgrade
action.

Important Note
If this precautional action is not taken, remember that the equipment shall be realigned by
means of instrument sets that are usually NOT AVAILABLE in the site.

Following data shall be noted for each radio (e.g. on a site logbook) 48:
 Oscillator Level (for DTR, DT and DR equipment).
 Audio input level calibration 49 (for DTR and DT equipment)
 Audio output level calibration 50 (for DTR and DR equipment)
 Shelf composition
 Rack type (IMC Shelf type)
 Enabling of power supply alarms
 DIAG485 Physical and Data layers addressing

Please consider that some of the above mentioned parameters may not be available
depending to the shelf configuration.

Important Note
The OTE D100 radio equipment upgrading from a baseline earlier than 7.4.4.0 will surely
imply the reporting of fault conditions during the upgrade procedure. The reason of the fault
condition is related to the incompatibility between the released IMC and BB module with the
earlier versions and to the missing of valid configuration data on the IMC non volatile memory.
This is normal and should not affect the installation procedure.
