Akshey DLP

Digital light processing (DLP) projectors use a digital micromirror device chip that can rapidly switch individual micromirrors on and off to project images. DLP projectors have high reliability, are quieter and smaller than LCD projectors, but some users report a 'rainbow effect' and DLP is not as good at rendering colors as LCD.

Digital light

processing(DLP) projector

By Akshey
Introduction

Invented by DR. Laryy Hornbeck in

1987

Used in buisness, education and

home enterntainment.
Basic components of DLP

• DMD chip ( digital micromirror device)

• Lamp
• Condensing lens
• Color Filter
• Shaping Lens
How it works
• DMD stands for digital micromirror device
• The numbers of micro mirrors and the way they are
arranged determines the resolution and the clarity of the
image
• When the micromirror tilt towards light source ,they are
on.
• Micromirror can switch off and on several thousands of
times a second creating grey shades typically 1024 grey
shades can be produced.
• A bright white light( for example a xenon
bulb) source passes through a color filter to the DMD
chip. Then it is split into the primary colors. The DLP
projector can create over 16 million colors.
Pros and Cons

• Pros:
• High reliability
• Very quiet compared to LCD projector
• Smaller and lighter than LCD projector
• Cons:
• A few DLP projectors users can suffer from the "rainbow
effect". described as brief flashes of rainbow like "shadows"
most often seen on high contrast areas of moving bright/white
objects on a mostly dark/black background such as the credits
at the end of a movie.
• DLP projectors aren't as good as LCD models at rendering
colours.
