Computer Systems Report

The document discusses principles of effective group work and reflects on applying those principles to a student group project. It outlines principles like communication, planning, creating a healthy environment, and managing differences. It also reflects that while the group applied these principles well, there is room for improvement in giving feedback and seeking help from instructors when facing difficulties.

Report

intro:
There is no doubt that ethics generates attention in the corporate world. How we view
organizations is influenced by ethical concerns like the way we treat others, use information,
interact with colleagues, handle resources, pursue sustainability, and affect the environment. In
fact, poor treatment of people and the places in which we live is frequently criticized and can
determine whether a corporation succeeds or fails. Because of this, organizations like Microsoft
frequently work to make ethical decisions and practices their standard. So for the professional
issue that I’ll be talking about in this part of the report is group work, and to be specific, our
group work.

Group Work Principles:

Group work is a must for many first-year university courses. Students meet in groups to discuss
readings, write group reports, and complete collaborative projects on topics related to the
student’s courses. Effective group work helps students learn more while doing less. It can be
difficult at first but with the right strategies it can be much more successful. And to make sure
the group work turns to be successful; the members of the group should go along with some
principles to get the work done fast and smooth without any problems or difficulties.

There are many different principles that applies for successful group work, the ones I’ll be
stating are only the ones that were applied in our group and how it affected us and our work:

1) Communication: Of course, as a group we should communicate with each other for

many different reasons, such as, being able to express ideas, improves healthy
relationships between the members, improves the quality of the work, and many more
different reasons. In our case, we communicated either through the social media
platform “WhatsApp”, or when we meet in class twice a week, and we discuss our work
and planning, and make sure that all the team members are working without any
difficulties.
2) Planning and work distribution: This is one of the first principles that was applied in our
group, where as soon as we were assigned to do a group work project, we discussed
how the work is going to be distributed ad who’s going to take which part. And of
course, this principle has its importance too, where it taught our group how to
effectively plan a successful group formation and how to be responsible, where each
member is responsible of finishing their part of the work on time and without any delay.
3) Healthy group environment and attitude: This principle is one of the most important
principles where it taught us many different things to make the group environment both
healthy and positive, and some of these things are: collaborating with each other
instead of competing within the group, making the learning experience more enjoyable
to spread positivity among the group members so we finish the work with no problems,
positive attitude such as respect where we are able to trust each other in the work
where we give and receive feedbacks about each group member work, and many more
different things.
4) Managing group differences: As a group we knew each other and recognized other
members strengths and weaknesses, so if someone was struggling with a part of work
we knew couldn’t finish, we would try to help him so he can finish the part without any
problems, and because we were constantly communicating with each other, we always
kept asking each other how is the progress of each group member’s part, and if any of
us needs any help, and that made us be able to always finish the group projects on time.

Group work experience reflection:

After finishing multiple group work projects together, and our group applying the previously
mentioned principles, we never had any issues with group projects, in fact we keep improving
be applying new principles in every upcoming project to improve our work rate and work
quality, and these principles that we’ll apply in the future to enhance our group work
experience are:

1) Good group mechanics: We lacked a little bit in this principle, where we rarely gave
opinions to other group members about how to improve our work, but the reason for
that was because we were busy with many other assignments and projects, where we
barely had the time to express our opinions about the other members work, we did give
feedbacks but it was a rare things that we need to work on more, because it can help us
improve the work quality where the other group members may have some creative
ideas to add the project to enhance it.
2) Instructions to groups: Even we had this principle applied in our group it was still lacking
as the previous principle, where instead of going for the tutor for help when we faced
difficulties, we either spoke with the other team members or asked friends from other
groups, but that was only because we would feel more comfortable to get the help from
a friend than the tutor himself, but still as mentioned earlier, this value was applied but
was lacking, where we did highly respect and value other group member’s ideas and
opinions, and we gave each other the ability to freely choose what part of work, they
feel comfortable to finish. But still if we try to improve this principle in our group, then
also our work will be improved where we will get directly from the tutor to tell us what
is missing in the project, because after all he’s the one who will be going through and
grading our work at the end.
