What is Information system?
• Information system is a set of components that helps in collection , storage , processing of data
into information which should be easily retrievable by stakeholders involved for easy
consumption and decision making.

• Information systems involves hardware – software(technology) , people, processes working in


tandem to achieve the collection of data in an integrated manner and achieving informational
value that is useful , less complicated for an organization to consume.

• Information systems understanding is not only technical but requires a grip in other disciplines
such as finance, marketing and operations. For an organization to own a robust information
system, total cost of ownership to be evaluated which involves financials, process compliance
that involves operations and finally output information that will be useful for marketing , strategy
and corporate actions.

• The vice versa is also true that , for any finance, marketing or operations professionals, at least a
basic understanding on information systems is necessary.
