In 1872, he built a temple for worshiping the Lord of Light of Infinite compassion at Vadalur
near Pondicherry in South India. He named it as ‘The Hall of True Wisdom’ [Sathya Gnana
Saba]. The land, measuring about 106 acres was donated by the people of the village. But
the enormous sum of about 75,000 INR which is equal to 75 million in today’s value was
very difficult to procure. Every villager could donate one or two rupees only. Finally, it was
donated by God, according to the register in which the names of contributors and amounts
donated by them were recorded.
Sathya Gnana Sabhai, also known as Sathya Gnana Sabha or Hall of True Wisdom, is a
significant secular spiritual-scientific institution located in Vadalur, Tamil Nadu, India. It is
closely associated with the life and teachings of Vallalar, Chidambaram Ramalinga
Swamigal, or Vadalur Vallalar.
Vallalar's teachings and his emphasis on love, compassion, the pursuit of divine life in a
divine body and attaining spiritual knowledge by relieving sufferings of living beings
continue to inspire millions of people in Tamil Nadu and beyond.
To felicitate the saint and promote his teachings, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. MK.
Stalin announced in Oct 2021, on the occasion of the Saint's 200th Birth Anniversary that an
International Centre for Vallalar would be established at Vadalur at 100 crore INR (approx 14
million USD) to promote the spiritual scientific teachings of Vallalar. Though this brought
cheer to the millions of Vallalar's devotees globally, the location of the International centre at
the existing location (Sathya Gnana Sabhai) at Vadalur is not feasible for the below reasons:
The Hall of True wisdom located in the grand space (Peruveli) at Vadalur is the main
premise where approx 15 hundred thousand devotees gather for the annual auspicious
Thaipoosam festival, during which Vallalar merged with the divine grace light (Lord
Arutperumjothi)
The grand space (Peruveli) in which the hall is located has high spiritual significance
and meaning attached to it and having another centre in the same location will impact
the same.
Building the Vallalar Internation Centre outside India will help promote Vallalar's
teachings globally and the significant contribution of the Tamils in tackling some of
the most pressing problems of the contemporary society especially in the wake of the
global pandemic crises
Constructing new structures in spiritually significant place like Vadalur should be approached
with great care and consideration. It should be done in a way that preserves the profound
wisdom embedded in the structural design by the Saint. Considering all these factors, we
strongly recommend the Tamil Nadu government to consult with all the worldwide Vallalar
Sanmarga Associations to ensure that the proposed International centre do not compromise
the spiritual significance of the Hall of True Wisdom.
