OVERVIEW OF THE TOPIC

While the previous lesson teaches about sexual harassment and how
it manifests, it is also important to discover certain deviant sexual behaviors that later
on transpires to become a psychological disorder. These disorders are what we call
"paraphilic disorders." Understanding these behaviors would equip our students, with
not only the fundamental knowledge about each of the disorders, but rather
deeper information on how and why these behaviors happen. Knowing these will
make let alert and aware of their actions towards untoward advances of people
diagnosed with these conditions.

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Discuss the context of sex, sexuality and gender following the Philippine social
norms.
2. Identify current sexuality and gender issues in the country

3. Determine action plans to counter abuses or discriminations about sexuality and
gender.
4. Reinforce erroneous acts that show disrespect towards the different genders
5. Apply gender sensitivity by correcting inappropriate gender expressions

Paraphilia

A term used to describe uncommon types of sexual expression.

When an individual gets sexually aroused by an object, a person, or a
circumstance in a very unusual way
literally meaning "beyond usual or typical love."
the term paraphilia stresses that such behaviors are usually not based on
an affectionate or loving relationship but rather are expressions of
behavior in which sexual arousal or response, or both, depends on
some unusual, extraordinary, or even bizarre activity (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013)
most of these behaviors are not overtly expressed by people in the society may
also be called "atypical sexual behaviors"
People who manifest atypical sexual behaviors often depend on these sexual
acts for sexual behaviors without inappropriately being labeled with a
mental disorder

*it is possible for an individual to engage in consensual atypical sexual behaviors without
inappropriately being labeled with a mental disorder
*APA recently noted that not all paraphilia’s are necessarily disorders but rather that
such behaviors should be classified as disorders only if they cause impairment to
the person manifesting them or if they cause harm to others

APA diagnosis requirement for paraphilia to be a disorder (paraphilic disorder) base

from APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5)

feel personal distress about their interest, not merely distress resulting from
society's disapproval
have a sexual desire or behavior that involves another person's psychological
distress, injury, or death, or desire for sexual behaviors involving unwilling
persons or persons unable to give legal consent
the urge or act lasts for at least six months

Non- Coercive Paraphilia

when atypical sexual behaviors do not involve coercion or violation of a person's

rights considered relatively benign or harmless

Coercive Paraphilia

invasive and involves unwilling recipients of the behavior

can harm their targets who may be psychologically traumatized by the
experience
recipients of these acts may feel that they have been violated or that they are
vulnerable to physical abuse, and may develop fears that such
unpleasant episodes may recur

Examples of Non- Coercive Paraphilia Fetishism

refers to sexual behavior in which an individual becomes sexually aroused by

forcing on an inanimate object or a particular part of the human body

only when a person becomes focused on these objects or body parts to the
exclusion of everything else is the term fetishism truly applicable

In some experiences, a person cannot experience sexual arousal and orgasm in

the absence of the fetish object. In other situations,

 where the attachment is not so strong, sexual response can occur in the
absence of the object but often with diminished intensity. For some people
fetish objects serve as substitutes for human contact and are dispensed
with if a partner becomes available.

Develops through:
incorporating the object or body part, often through fantasy, in a masturbation
sequence in which the reinforcement of orgasm strengthens the fetishistic
association
Another possible explanation for the origins of some cases of fetishism looks to
childhood. Some children learn to associate sexual arousal with objects
(such as panties or shoes) that belong to an emotionally significant
person, such as their mothers or older sisters

Only rarely does fetishism develop into an offense that might harm someone.
Occasionally, an individual may commit burglary to supply a fetish object
Uncommonly, a person may do something bizarre, such as cut hair from an
unwilling person.
In extremely rare cases a man may murder and mutilate his victim, preserving
certain body parts for fantasy masturbation activities.

Transvestic Disorder

cross-dressing is a momentary activity, producing sexual excitement that often

culminates in gratification through masturbation or sex with a partner.
Transvestites- a person who cross-dresses
dressing as a person of the other sex is not necessarily problematic unless such
behavior is accompanied by sexual excitement that is a source of
distress to the person manifesting the behavior
The sexual component of cross-dressing for these individuals distinguishes them
from female impersonators who cross-dress to entertain, gay men who
occasionally "go in drag" to attract men
In many cases of transvestism, a person becomes aroused by wearing only
one garment, perhaps a pair of panties or a brassiere. Some people
prefer to dress completely as the other sex.
Often a solitary activity, occurring privately in the person's home.

*A distinguishing feature of transvestic disorder is that the clothing article is actually worn
instead of just being viewed or fondled, as is the case with fetishism.

Sexual sadism and sexual masochism or sadomasochism (S/M)

the association of sexual expression with pain and power dynamics

A person who engages in one of these behaviors does not necessarily engage in
the other, and thus sadism and masochism are actually distinct
behaviors.
Although SIM practices have the potential for being physically dangerous, most
participants generally stay within mutually agreed-on limits, often
confining their activities to mild or even symbolic S/M acts with a trusted
partner.
Many people who engage in S/M activities are motivated by a desire to
experience dominance or submission, or both, rather than pain

Sexual Sadism

The act of obtaining sexual arousal through giving physical or psychological pain

Sexual masochism

The act of obtaining sexual arousal through receiving physical or psychological

pain.
People with masochistic inclinations are aroused by such things as being
whipped, cut, pierced with needles, bound, or spanked.
The degree of pain that the person must experience to achieve sexual arousal
varies from symbolic or very mild to, rarely, severe beatings or mutilations.

Sexual masochism is also reflected in individuals who achieve sexual arousal as a

result of" being held in contempt, humiliated, and forced to do menial, filthy, or
degrading service"

Bondage- a version of masochism in which an individual derive sexual pleasure

from being bound, tied up, or otherwise restricted
-usually takes place with a cooperative partner who binds or restrains the
individual and sometimes administers discipline, such as spankings or
whippings

A related theory sees sexual masochism as an attempt to escape from high levels of
self-awareness. Similar to some other behaviors (such as getting drunk) in which a
person may attempt to lose himself or herself, masochistic activity blocks out
unwanted thoughts and feelings, particularly those that induce anxiety, guilt, or
feelings of inadequacy or insecurity

Autoerotic Asphyxia

also called hypoxyphilia or asphyxiophilia

is a rare and life-threatening paraphilia in which an individual, seeks to reduce
the supply of oxygen to the brain during a heightened state of sexual
arousal
The oxygen deprivation is usually accomplished by applying pressure to the
neck with a chain, leather belt, ligature, or rope noose (by means of
hanging). Occasionally, a plastic bag or chest compression is used as
the asphyxiating device.
A person might engage in these oxygen-depriving activities while alone or,
occasionally, with a partner

Examples of Coercive Paraphilia Exhibitionism

often called indecent exposure

` refers to behavior in which an individual (almost always male)

exposes his genitals to an involuntary observer (usually an
adult woman or a girl)

Typically, a man who has exposed himself obtains sexual gratification by

masturbating shortly thereafter, using mental images of the
observer's reaction to increase his arousal.

Some men, while having sex with a willing partner, fantasize about exposing
themselves or replay mental images from previous episodes. Still
others have orgasm triggered by the act of exposure, and some
masturbate while exhibiting themselves

Certainly, many of us have exhibitionistic tendencies: We may go to

nude beaches, parade before admiring lovers, or wear provocative
clothes or scanty swimwear. However, such behavior is considered
appropriate by a society that in many ways exploits and celebrates
the erotically portrayed
human body.

That legally defined exhibitionistic behavior involves generally unwilling

observers sets it apart from these more acceptable variations of
exhibitionism.

 What is an appropriate response if someone exposes himself to you?
Calmly ignore the exhibitionist act and go about your business. Of course,
it is also important to immediately distance yourself from the offender
and to report such acts to the police or campus security as soon as
possible.

Frotteurism

involves an individual, usually a male, who obtains sexual pleasure by pressing

or rubbing against a fully clothed female in a crowded public place, such
as an elevator, a bus, a subway, a large sporting event, or an outdoor
concert
- so sabi dito is read definition frottuerism it, so sinasabi lang dito is
isa siyang disorder na kung saan noh napapaloob sya sa
paraphilic disorder na tinatawag, itong freotteurism na ito isa
itong pagkilos na kung saan madalas na involve ang mga
kalalakihan na kung nga noh nakakagawa sila ng mga hindi
pangkaraniwan gawin ng mga normal na tao sa mga public
area katulad nga ng elevator, bus, subway, outdoor concert. So
sa mga kalalakihan o kababaihan man na may gantong
disorder is in order for them to fulfill or para ma satisfy or para
magawa

This behavior usually occurs in places where rapid escape is possible. The most
common form of contact is between the man's clothed penis and a

Voyeurism

refers to deriving sexual pleasure from looking at the naked bodies or sexual
activities of others, usually strangers, without their consent
- so sinasabi lang dito sa voyeurism, ito yung ginagawang pamboboso ng
iilan madalas na nasasangkot dito ay ang mga kalalakihan na may
lihim na pagnanasa sa biktima. So ang tawag sa mga taong
nasasangkot sa mga gantong uri ng pangyayari ay tinatawag sila
voyeur which means mga taong nasasatisfy everytime na
nakakapanood o nakakita sila ng mga hubad na katawan or mga taong
nakikipag sexual intercourse.
- one of the example nito is kapag yung taong may pagnanasa sa biktima
so parang with the help of his mind nakakpag create sya sa utak nya
ng mga imahe or mga scenario na nakikipag sexual intercourse yung
biktima don sa kanya. So in a way na para ma achieve nya yung
satisfaction nya is nagmamasturbate sya habang nag iimagine ng
ganon scenario. However, acc to my research yung mga taong may
gantong disorder or case is wala silang personal intension sa biktima

mga voyeur is mas pinipili nilang ma engage sa mga risk (AGAINTS

na hinahanap nila sa kanilang pansariling kaligayahan. Inshort
panonood ng aktuwal na mag couple na nag sexual intercourse sa
harap ng voyeur.
To qualify as atypical sexual behavior, voyeurism must be preferred to sexual
relations with another person or indulged in with some risk (or both). People
who engage in this behavior are often most sexually aroused when the
risk of discovery is high-which may explain why most are not attracted to
such places as nudist camps and nude beaches, where looking is
acceptable

Video voyeurism- small, technologically advanced video cameras are used to

surreptitiously invade the personal privacy of many unaware victims

may kakayahan na makapag record ng video ng mga taong biktima without their
consent.

AND VIDEO VOYEURISM ACT OF 2009) so ineeaim ng batas na ito is para

 mapigilan ang pagpapakalat ng sex video or photo ng isang tao.
Ano ano nga ba yung pinagbabawal ng batas na ito?
1. pagkuha ng larawan o pagrerecord ng video habang nakikipag sexual intercourse sa
isang tao o isang grupo
2. pagkopya o pagpaparami ng photo or video recording ng pakikipag sekswal sa iba.
3. pagbebenta o pagshshare ng photo or video recording
4. pagpopost sa social media or pagprint ng mga larawan ng biktima nan aka sexual
intercourse ng salarin

Obscene Phone Calls

sometimes called telephone scatologia, the act of making these is viewed by

some professionals as a subtype of exhibitionism. experience sexual arousal
when their victims react in a horrified or shocked manner, and many
masturbate during or immediately after a "successful" phone exchange.

- so sinasabi lang dito is ito yung way ng taong may pagnanasa noh sa
biktima, so ang ginagawa nila is tumatawag sila anytime sa biktima then may
mga words na parang nanghaharass sa biktima which is for example uhmm
inuutusan nya yung biktima na magsalita ng mga sekwal na salita so in this
way na parang eto yung way nung lalaki para mameet nya yung satisfaction na
hinahanap nya, mostly yung mga ganto is mga stalker nung biktima then
tinatakot nila so yung biktima is mashoshocked then dahil nga sa takot
mapipilitan syang gawin yung pinapagawa sa knya.

 What is the best way to handle obscene phone calls?
He wants you to be horrified, shocked, or disgusted; thus the best response is
usually not to react overtly.
1. Slamming down the phone may reveal your emotional state and provide
reinforcement to the caller.
- In a way ng pagbabagsak ng telepono sa mga gantong uri calls is parang
binibigyan mo sign yung caller na you are stronger and hindi ka basta

biktima na kayang magpalamon sa takot sa mga sinasabi nya.

Other tactics may also be helpful. One is to feign deafness.

na mga word na sekswal kase hindi mo nga marinig

Pedophilia

sexual contact between an adult and a child who are not related.

- so sinasabi lang dito na pagkakaroon ng isang sexual intercourse sa pagitan

ng adult and child ( tinutukoy is bata pa under age) na hindi magka- mag anak.
- so acc to my research etong pedophilia is isinama sya sa mga paraphilic
disorder, which means kinabibilangan ito ng mga hindi pangkariniwang na tao
na may sekswal na interes na nagdududot ng pagkabalisa.

No classic profile of the pedophile offender has been identified, other than that
most pedophiles are heterosexual males and are known to the victim

Men who molest children cover the spectrum of social class, educational
achievement, intelligence, occupation, religion, and ethnicity.
Evidence suggests that many pedophile offenders, especially those who
are prosecuted, are shy, lonely, poorly informed about sexuality, and
moralistic or religious

 Many are likely to have poor interpersonal and sexual relations with other adults
and may feel socially inadequate and inferior

Relating to these children sexually may be a way of coping with powerful

feelings of inadequacy that are likely to emerge in socio-sexual
relationships with other adults. However, it is not uncommon to encounter
pedophiles outside the legal system who are well educated, socially adept,
civic-minded, and financially successful. They often pick their victims from
among family friends, neighbors, or acquaintances

Other characteristics of some child molesters include alcoholism, severe marital

problems, sexual difficulties, poor emotional adjustment, and various
brain disorders
- so furthermore, ilan sa mga characteristic ng mga mang aabuso or
pedophile person is yung pagiging alcoholic, matinding problem
sa pagaasawa, hirap sa pakikipagtalik, poor emotional
adjustment and last is sakit sa utak. So yung mga nabanggit ko
is common reason kung bakit humahantong yung pedophile sa
ganong point.

Many of these offenders were sexually victimized themselves during their own
childhood

- sad to say hindi lahat ng mga nagkakasala ay masama kadalasan

dala lang ng kanilang naging experience o masamang
experience nung sila ay bata kung kayat naaadopt nila ito
hanggang sa paglaki dahil hindi naging maganda ang memorya
nila nung bata pa imbis na dapat ang tatak na memorya sa
isipin nila ay masasaya at hindi mababyarang ng salapi ang
kasiyahan na dulot nito nung bata pa sila kaso lang malagim na
trahedya ang naibaon nila hanggang sa paglaki.
