Block (2) Week

 Represent series circuits by drawings and conventional symbols

 Construct series circuits on the basis of drawings and diagrams using conventional symbols
Learning  Observe the ways that devices transform electrical energy into other forms of energy
Outcomes:  Use a sensor to control a simple circuit e.g. sound or a bell when a pressure switch is activated
 Learn by testing that electrical circuits and magnets can exert a force on each other
 Explore devices that can transform electrical energy into other forms of energy
 Recognise safety precautions when using electricity at home.

 Explain the function of each component in the electric circuit.

 Describe the flow of electricity in a circuit.
 Identify conventional symbols of electric circuit component as cell, battery, wire, bulb, motor,
switch and buzzer.
 Differentiate between complete and incomplete circuits.
 Draw series electric circuit by using conventional symbols.
 Investigate the difference between series and parallel circuits constructions.
 Draw series circuits using conventional symbols.
 Identify the electric components from electric circuit diagram.
 Construct series circuits using electric components practically
 Use different switches to open and close a circuit.
 Differentiate between different switches.
 State the function of the switch.
 Identify how some electric devices change electric energy into other forms of energy.
 Describe electrical energy transformation into sound, light, heat and motion

 Objectives:  Mention devices used in electrical energy transformation into sound, light, heat and motion.
 Explore different devices and observe the ways of electrical energy transformation.
 Describe how electrical energy has changed in different electric circuits
 Relate the use of different devices to how it changes the electrical energy

 Identify the relation between magnetism and electric current.

 Design an electromagnet
 Explain that a magnetic compass is a detector for electric circuits
 Investigate factors affecting the strength of electromagnet number of coils, use soft iron and
number of batteries.
 Identify factors affecting the strength of electromagnet.
 Identify that electromagnet is a temporary magnet.

 Illustrate that electric current is very dangerous if not treated with precaution

 List safety precaution when dealing with electrical devices at home

 Spot out electrical hazards in diagrams or surroundings.

Question 5

Wire Cell Bulb

Series connection

Parallel connection

The first bulb becomes dimmer, as in series connection electric current moves in

one route only so it is divided into the two bulbs

The first bulb stays as it is and is not affected by adding another bulb, as in parallel

connection the electric current passes in branched routes
