Master’s Standing Orders for D.P operators

Only certified / familiarized (approved by Master) personnel are allowed to


perform DP Duties on this vessel. All DPO’s must read and understand the
operator’s manual for the Kongsberg system. It is important that you read and
understand the FMEA report, review last annual DP proving trials, read Bridge
procedures manual & contents of all DP Operations manuals including
ASOG/CAMO as well as IMCA publications. When you have done this, sign the
sheet DPO signature sheet in the front of the file.

On duty, the SDPO is mainly responsible for DP Operation and vessel. The DPO
shall always consult with SDPO his actions and if in doubt.

The watch system comprises of Ch/off (Snr DPO) on watch from 0600 to 1800
and the 2nd officer/SDPO from 1800 to 0600. The Second mates (or DPO’s) will
be on watch from 0000 to 1200 & 1200 to 2400. The Master can change this
system of watches if required.

While the vessel is on DP, and unless there are special circumstances (master will
advise), the DPO remains the OOW and keep all obligations dedicated to the
OOW. There shall be two qualified DP operators on the bridge during DP
operations. The DP operators shall alternate in operating the vessel. Both DP
operators shall be qualified navigators/deck officers. The DP operator that is not
operating the vessel shall assume the role of OOW and be in charge of the bridge
team.

DP Operator is solely responsible for the vessel during his watch, even if Master
is present on the bridge unless he verbally inform to taking over responsibility,
this should also be recorded on log books.

While on DP there is to be a watchman (AB) available at all times for the


OOW/DPO’s use. Ensure he has a working UHF radio. If DPO’s require, (due to
other duties) the watchman can be used on the bridge keeping a lookout during
periods of darkness, in reduced visibility and at any other time the OOW deems
necessary, i.e., in heavy traffic.

DP operator performing his duties on the DP Desk shall always be focused only
on DP Operations. No electronic devices (not related to operation) are allowed
while performing DP duties.

Before enter any 500m Zone, Bridge Team must be familiarized with Installation
Data Card and requirements. DP Operator is obliged to set up vessel on DP on
drift off side of installation, performed all DP Checks as per DP Trial Check List.
Vessel 500m Zone Check List and Installation Check List (if required) must be
completed. All Check Lists must be stored as per ISM Procedures and distributed
as per Client/Installation requirements. Vessel is allowed to enter any 500m
Zone only after receive verbal or written permission by Installation / Client. No
Hot Work permitted whilst inside 500mz zone without express approval from
Client.

In case of emergency or any equipment failure that may affect the DP Operation,
DPO Bridge Team is required to inform immediately (as a minimum) Master,
Engine Room and Control / ROV and rise verbal Amber or Red alert. Vessel
should pull off the installation ASAP to safe distance or leave 500m Zone to
investigate problem.

A DP log shall be kept by the DP operator describing times and dates of various
DP operations. All relevant activities related to the operation at hand shall be
entered in the log. A "DP Hours and faults log" shall be kept as with template in
99-1527 "DP Hours and Faults Log". The log shall be a monthly summary of hours
on DP and faults. The hours shall be accumulated throughout the year as
described in the template.

At no time during DP operations shall routine maintenance be carried out on any


part of DP system, engines or thrusters. Unless equipment is off line & not
required for current DP class operation. Maintenance should be Risk assessed
prior to commencement and have approval from Chief Engineer.

SPECIAL DP STANDING ORDERS

 Masters to be called at any time when dangers or problem arises, or if the


DPO on watch is in doubt of what to do.
 Before changing over the watch, it is very important for the ongoing DPO
to complete the watch handover checklist and understands what is going
to happen during watch. No watch to be changed during execution of
critical manoeuvres.
 Duty officer to inform ‘’All Stations’’ via clear comms when entering 500 m
zone Engine room along with informed and deck crew to change all the
signs on inside accommodation doors.
 During Class II operations run Consequence Analysis.
 As a guideline at least two PRS with different principles (relative /
absolute) shall be in use when vessel has reached a steady position close
to any surface structure. (If client requirements differ, the most stringent
should be used)
 HPR transponders not to be deployed within 10 m of any pipeline or
subsea structure.
 Fixed HPR transponders launched for position reference to be deployed
upwind and up current when possible.
 HIPAP/HPR pole must be stowed AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 6 KNOTS. And
only raise or lower when speed below 2kts.
 Do not exceed 6 knots with tunnel thrusters forward running.
 Alarm limits for position and heading to be set to 3 m and 3 degrees, (or at
DPO / masters discretion, based on evaluation of the actual safety
requirements for each individual situation). Alarm limit must be less than
half distance between vessel and nearest point of contact with any
structures or installations.
 Vessel to maintain station in Auto mode with Steady state for at least 30
minutes before commencing Class II operations.
 No part of vessel to be within 10 m of platform or any other surface
Structure.
 DP checklist to be completed before any DP operations commences,
before entering the 500m exclusion zone of an offshore construction and
every watch changeover.

 Bridge to be manned according to procedure 5-1481 "Bridge


Management"
 Within the 500m exclusion zone off an offshore construction, ECR to be
manned with one experienced engineer at all time.
 Client specific ASOG/CAMO to be reviewed by every DPO and Engineer
prior to commencement of operations. Special attention given to thruster
usage (e.g. maximum 45% thrust). This should be reviewed, amended,
signed and uploaded to UNISEA documents
 If in any doubt, call the Master
