Start By:
a. Remove piston pump (brake, fan, hoist).
b. Remove piston pump (hoist, steering).
c. Remove the oil cooler (torque converter and brake).

Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking.
When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of
the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a
component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under
a heavy component.
Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces

where parts are to be installed.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of
the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog"

for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat®
products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Note the location and the orientations of all hose assemblies, all tube assemblies, all hoses, and all
wiring harnesses for installation purposes.
1. Install Tooling (C) to stabilize the machine.
2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) -
Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.
3. Drain the transmission. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil - Change" for
the correct draining and filling procedures.

4. Disconnect hose assembly (1) and hose assembly (2). Position hose assembly (1), hose assembly (2),
and hose assemblies (3) to the side.
5. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) and position hose assemblies (4) to the side.
6. Loosen hose assembly (5). Remove hose assembly (6).
7. Disconnect harness assemblies (7) from the combination valve. Secure the hose assemblies away from
mount assemblies (8), as shown.
8. Disconnect harness assembly (9) from harness assembly (10) and from the transmission. Disconnect
harness assembly (10) from the frame and from the transmission.
9. Disconnect hose assemblies (11).
10. Remove clamp (14). Remove clamps (12). Move hose assembly (15) and hose assemblies (13) to the
side.
11. Cut cable strap (16). Disconnect hose assembly (17) from the combination valve and position hose
assembly (17) to the side.
12. Disconnect bracket assembly (18).
13. Disconnect hose assembly (19).
14. Disconnect tube assembly (21) from the transmission and from bracket (20).
15. Disconnect bracket (22).
16. Attach a suitable lifting device to front drive shaft (23). The weight of front drive shaft (23) is
approximately 55 kg (121 lb). Remove the bolts from front drive shaft (23) and position front drive
shaft (23) onto the front axle.
17. Disconnect bracket (24) from the transmission.
Left side of machine.
18. Disconnect hose assemblies (25) from filter assembly (26). Make sure to remove all cable straps that
secure hose assemblies (25).
19. Disconnect brackets (28). Disconnect hose assembly (27). Disconnect hose assembly (29) from the
transmission.
20. Remove fitting (30) and hose assembly (27) from the flywheel housing.
21. Install Tooling (B) to the front of transmission (32) and a suitable lifting device to the rear of
transmission (32). The weight of transmission (32) is approximately 817 kg (1800 lb).
22. The weight of the engine is approximately 1588 kg (3500 lb). Install Tooling (A) and suitable cribbing
under the flywheel housing. Remove 24 bolts (31).
23. Remove mount assemblies (8).
24. Slowly raise the front of transmission (32) until the mounts clear the frame. Remove transmission (32).
Remove ring (33).
25. Using Tooling (D) and (E) and mount the transmission for repair.
Installation Procedure
1. Install transmission (32) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Lubricate ring (33).
b. Tighten bolts (23) to a torque of 135 ± 20 N·m (100 ± 15 lb ft).
