Candidate believed it was necessary for this lesson in particular to have continuous examples that were given to the students. Something that they struggled with
was the theme, which is a hard concept for a lot of the students, especially for those who are functioning below grade level.
CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION 3
Candidate shared that many students struggled with spelling and descriptive words. Allowing the students to at least try to spell and offer help was a challenge for
some but allowed them to engage in the lesson. Candidate had to use more probing questions to find what some of the students wanted to say in their haikus.
CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION 3
Candidate's lesson was built intentionally to support the prior lessons that were implemented. They worked through different aspects of poetry and slowly built our
way up to reinforce what the theme is. This is a new concept for the students and candidate recognized that they did struggle to find the theme.
CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION 3
Candidate shared "Nature is a way to include all students and use background knowledge. Using animals that the students know and can see to introduce theme
can be an easier bridge to understanding. "
CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION 3
Candidate shared that students understood the expectations if they were able to have 3 lines with 5-7-5 syllables accordingly. Using clapping methods to show that
they can follow along was an indicator of their understanding.
CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION 3
Candidate's goal when engaging students was to include various animals that students could relate to. This included a video of a real life animal that the students
could draw examples of traits from. Candidate used a popular trend on social media to engage students and make the instruction fun.
CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION 3
Candidate shared "I sought out my mentor teacher for advice on how to increase student’s understanding of theme. This is a difficult concept and working with EL
students made it difficult to implement. My mentor teacher offered advice and examples on how to better instruct the students. This was the inclusion of videos,
visuals, and more examples. "
CLINICAL PRACTICE EVALUATION 3
Candidate shared "As I walked around I intentionally would ask students to be specific in what they were asking me, not that they needed help. I want to implement
the notion that they need help with something specific. I find this important because if they can identify where they need help then this can relate to people asking
questions that can influence better results. "
