Based on the given scenario Company X, made several mistakes that ultimately led to the failure
of the ERP implementation project. These mistakes included:
Issues/Problems Faced by the Organization:

Lack of Alignment: In a complex organization with a range of business operations and


functions. Each unit had its own unique set of skills, competencies, and business operating
modes. And if the process and workflow are not optimized the implementation and utilization of
the ERP system could end up in disaster.

Lake of Planning and Evaluation: Company X might not have thoroughly evaluated and
planned for the implementation of the ERP system. As this implementation is a significant
change in their business operating environment and it requires proper planning, research, and
consultation.

inadequate System Customization: The specific needs of an organization may not always be
perfectly met by standard ERP solutions. Company X could have experienced inefficiencies and
restricted functionality, which would have reduced the anticipated benefits if they had not
properly customized the ERP system to fit their business processes.

Possible Solutions:

Conduct a thorough evaluation: Before considering an ERP implementation, Company X should


have carried out a thorough evaluation of their current processes, workflows, and capabilities.
This evaluation would assist in identifying areas that need improvement and align them with the
organization's strategic goals.
Seek expert advice: Consulting an ERP implementation expert can offer helpful guidance and
insights at various stages of the process. These experts can help in making the best ERP solution
choice, creating effective processes, and creating change management plans.

Customization and Configuration: Company X should have assessed their specific


requirements and evaluated the flexibility and customization options offered by potential ERP
vendors. They should have prioritized customization efforts to align the system with their unique
business processes while balancing the need for standardization and best practices.

Taking the time to do it right: Company X needs to be patient and take the time to do the
ERP implementation project right. This means avoiding shortcuts and taking the time to properly
align and optimize its internal core competencies.
