All the fairy penguins at Middle Island are being taken by foxes. The Park rangers do not know how to stop or
defend them. A farmer is training his dog to protect the penguins. If there ae less than 10 penguins Middle
Island will know longer be classed as a protected sanctuary, and some in town want to turn Middle Island
into a whale into a Whale Watching centre

The story takes place Middle Island off the coast of Warrnambool, this setting contributes to
the story as the penguins are native to that area

One of the main character of the film is oddball, he is a Marama sheepdog, this breed of
dog are specialised of keeping animals together. This is why oddball is so good at
keeping the fairy penguins save.

This film depicts the relationship between humans and animals is that oddball, granddad
Emily and Olivia all work together to save the endangered animals and brings them all
together, and the relationship Swampy and Oddball, and reflects the Australian values of

The movie oddball is inspired by the dog Oddball, the Marama that proved dogs could be
used to protect a Victorian penguin colony and inspired a movie in the process, has died
aged 15. She spent only two weeks on Middle Island but her short trip led to a permanent
penguin-protection project being set up and a 2015 film being named after her.

The film showcases ‘ Middle Island ‘, this is a real island in Victoria. It is a rocky island in
Stingray Bay next to the city of Warrnambool. It is a wildlife sanctuary that is home to
breeding colonies of Australian little penguins and short-tailed shearwaters. It is closed to
general public access because of the low penguin population.
