    THE UNPLANNED END-YEAR VACATION

    Actually, when I was still in the first semester, I planned to spend my holiday just staying
    at home watching K-Dramas, working out, and occasionally hanging out because my little sister
    came home for her holiday from Boarding School (Most people know it as 'Pesantren') which is
    so far away and she came home only every 6 months and I knew that my sister doesn't like to go
    out and prefers staying at home. My parents also agreed that we would not travel outside of the
    city, and I had already planned a vacation with some old friends from December 30th to January
    1st. We had even purchased our train tickets to Bandung. But suddenly on 29 th of December my
    parents asked us to go to East Java for taking my sister back to the Boarding School in Jombang,
    East Java on the 3rd of January. I had to cancel my main plan with my old friends. My family (my
    parents, me, and my sister) drove to East Java, and our first stop was Madiun City. We stayed for
    one night there before continuing to Malang City to visit my brother, who is a student at
    Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), and we stayed in The Batu Villas until the second
    day of the new year, which was the 2nd of January 2023, and we continued on the 3rd of January
    to Jombang, where my sister studies.

    We went to Madura after taking my sister to her boarding school. But, because it was
    already dark, we decided to spend the night in Gresik, where my father grew up. Actually, I
    enjoy vacationing with my family because they are eager to try any culinary and villas or hotels
    that are well-known in each city. But what makes me the most tired is that we drove to every
    city, and I had so many aches. I could be in the car for a day and my bones, especially my back,
    would hurt. We went to Surabaya after spending one day in Gresik and were surprised to learn
    that my uncle, who was staying in Madura, was hospitalized, so we went there right away.
    Madura is my father's hometown. We spent one night in Madura before returning to Surabaya.
    Personally, I disliked staying in Madura because it was too hot and there was no internet signal,
    so I asked my parents to return to Surabaya. I enjoy staying in Surabaya because I have many
    friends from my junior high and high school days, and I get to see and hang out with them. I
    enjoy the atmosphere of Surabaya and all of its shopping centers. What most impressed me was
    that I discovered a really good iced coffee along Tunjungan Road. I even bought extras for
    myself so that I could drink it while I was at home waiting for my vacation to end.

    But at the time, I was only staying for one night in Surabaya, and we were planning to
    return home until we passed Semarang City, and I suggested to my parents that we go there and
    walk around because we had never stayed in Semarang before, and they agreed. We stayed in
    Semarang for two days and sampled some delicious gulai and marrow soup. After Surabaya, I
    believe Semarang will be my second favorite place to visit. I love the city view, I love the food,
    and I will always visit this city when I go on vacation. We decided to leave Semarang because
    we were all exhausted. After a long vacation, I rested for a long time at home. I was home for a
    week before the start of the second semester. I'm glad to be back after the holidays and to see all
    of my classmates again, with several new lectures that make me so excited to face this semester
    in order to get a better grade because I'm not happy with my last semester's grade. Best wishes
    for a successful semester to me and my classmates.
