Arts and daily living

Module 1

Activity 1

Answer the following question briefly but precisely.

1. What is Art? (Explain in your own words)

The product of someone’s imagination and/or creativity, which may include thoughts,

expression and even emotions or sentiments.

2. Which of the following classification of Art (Visual, Performing, Literacy) do you think

you belong? Why?

Because I like singing and dancing as a child, I fall under the category of arts known as

"performance arts." I've always had a tendency to dance even though I know I have both

left feet, but it doesn't mean I should stop. Even though I'm not very good at dancing, I've

wanted to do it since I was a young child. My voice is good, but I could not claim to be

perfect at singing due to a lack of practice. I'm good at both of them, but I'm also quite

talented in the visual arts, such as painting and photography.

3. Why Art is also termed as “High Culture”

High culture is a phrase that is today employed in a variety of ways in academic

discourse, with the most common meaning being the set of cultural products, primarily in

the arts, that a civilization holds in the greatest regard. In more common parlance, it
refers to the culture of an elite, such as the nobility or intelligentsia. It is contrasted with

the low culture or popular culture of the less educated, barbarians, Philistines, or the

people, to name a few. When the term culture is used without a qualifying adjective, it

usually refers to high culture. For example, opera is considered high culture. Art has an

impact on society by altering people's minds, instilling ideals, and transmitting

experiences across distance and time.

Activity 2

Answer the statement briefly but precisely.

Why Arts is important? Explain.

The inherent value of art in our technologically advanced culture cannot be overstated. In

civilization, art promotes creativity and aesthetic beauty. It is very significant since it

improves our society. Art makes people feel happy and content. Truth and beliefs can be

expressed via art. It depicts a variety of concepts and emotions, including triumph, love,

happiness, grief, and boredom. Every message in art conveys concepts that are important

to modern culture.” Your emotions are a river of imagination flowing through art.” If

you pause for a time in front of a piece of art that contains numerous lines and shapes that

cannot all be defined, you may begin to envision things by attempting to link the lines

and shapes to create a certain shape in your head. What if it’s a sunrise in the picture?

You’ll start to reflect on every happy or sad event that occurred to you. No one nowadays
understands the true value of art. All across the world, there is art. It is a person’s

imagination and ingenuity.

Most things you use and see without even realizing it are works of art. If you want to

know what art means, read on. You must look around you, at everything you use in your

daily life, and you will notice that everything you see displays an art, especially your

clothes, hair design, shoes, and so on… They are all arts. Art allows us to see everything

and everyone in a new light.

Art provides us with a range of questions and solutions to the things we see, rather than

being something we read or listen to when we’re bored or having an epileptic fit. That is

up to us. It doesn’t force us to listen, think, or even understand; rather, it transports us to a

world from the past, a fictional universe, or a realm of ideas. Different types of audio art,

including songs, music, and poems, are possible. Visual arts such as filmmaking,

photography, and painting vary based on the artist, the style, and the medium. “Art that

cannot shape society and therefore also cannot penetrate the heart questions of society,

and in the end influence the question of capital, is no art.”- Joseph Beuys

Essay

“How art affects and reflects the world”

Living is an ongoing process that can also be referred to as continual transformation. Given how

sophisticated and advanced life is today, art is highly important. By transferring experiences

across space and time, it stimulates society. Through visual inspiration, it shapes people's

perceptions. The fundamental sense of self is influenced by art. People are not shown by art what

they should do. By projecting a fusion of fantasy and reality that affects how people think and

act, it reforms. People may experience a sense of global immersion.

The emotions that art evokes can inspire contemplation, participation, and even action. The

feeling sparked by a piece of art is widely known to many individuals. People can be moved and

given new experiences by art. Art can inspire individuals to think positively or differently about

life, whether it is through a painting, theater, music, poem, story, spatiotemporal experiment, or

any type of sculpture.

The purpose of life and how pleasure and beauty can be a part of existence can be understood

through the lens of art. It merges the fantastical with the real worlds and shows how an artist

perceives people and locations. It encourages individuals to give existence and living new
meanings. As a result, the person starts to notice an emotion that he may not have previously

given much thought to.

Art serves as a catalyst that separates facts from presumptions and combines these with

imagination to produce new meaning. In particular, it inspires people to use their ideas and

thoughts to give a work of art the meaning they give it. Additionally, art encourages us to value

intuition, improbability, and imagination as well as to continually seek out novel ideas. Artists

strive to dismantle conventions and find novel solutions to pressing contemporary issues. When

an artist tackles current themes, he or she enables his or her audience to develop their

metaphysical responses to art to a new level of intellectual maturity.

Vicente Manansala has created a number of portraits of individuals who are expressing novel

ideas. As an illustration of the urban poor depicted in the slums that emerged after the war,

consider Madonna of the Slums. It reflects the period's sense of fear and uncertainty. The use of

brown emphasizes both the discomfort of those who reside there as well as the filthy, shabby

aspect of the shanties with their roofs constructed from leftover materials. The main image

shows a sharp, attentive mother holding her child's hand to her face in a protective gesture

against the realities of life. Madonna was mainly intended to serve as a reminder of the

theological idea that purity or virginity is valued so highly. The color of her outfit also serves as

a representation of this. Purity, virginity, and royalty were all represented by the color blue.

Therefore, it is right to assert that art has the power to move people in many ways. This is how it

changes the world.
