Lesson Plan

The lesson plan teaches students about the plant life cycle through three activities: 1) Putting the stages of the life cycle in order and watching explanatory videos. 2) Interviewing the school gardener and planting their own seeds. 3) An interactive smartboard game to identify life cycle stages. Students will assess their learning through their science books and be assigned an interactive worksheet as homework. The goal is for students to understand the basic needs of plants and the progression of their growth from seed to flowering plant.

students the plant’s life cycle (seed, germination, seedling, roots and stems, young
plant & flowering).

Purpose of lesson plan:

This lesson provides students with evidence that plants grow and change as they progress
through their life cycle.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
1) Recall the basic needs of all living things and the names of plant’s parts.
2) Name the different stages of the plant’s life cycle.
3) Experiment planting some seeds to grow as a full-grown plant.
4) Assume what will happen if we don’t provide our planted seeds with water or air or
sunlight.
5) Explain how plant grows.
6) Create a project about plants’ life cycle.

Activity
Duration

Hook/Introduction:
 Showing them my magic box, which is full of fruits planted in Egypt and ask them to (5 mins.)
guess which fruit do I have. If they guess them correctly, I will make fruit salad to be
eaten in their breaktime. After guessing I will start asking them some questions about
fruits, vegetables and flowers like (Are these fruits animals, objects or plants? How do
you think we plant fruit? What do they need to grow?). These questions are to be a
transition to the next activity.

Procedure/Activity (30 mins):

1) 1st Activity: To ask them to put in the correct order these pieces of paper of the (10
different stages of a plant life cycle in group of 3 students. Then we will watch an mins.)
interactive video about the plant life cycle while I’m pausing to ask and comment on
the video. Lastly, they will reflect on their answers if they guessed them all or some of
them correctly.

2) 2nd Activity: An interview with an expert (the school gardener) & planting activity
They will go to the garden to have a quick tour by the gardener and ask all the
questions they want and then they will use a plastic spoon to put some seeds into some
soil in a plastic cup and will water them and give them to the gardener to keep them in (10
the garden but I will keep mine in a locker without providing it with the elements of mins.)
life to help them to observe the importance the elements of life in the plant’s life cycle
and after asking them to assume what is going to happen to these seeds that I will keep
in my locker .

3) 3rd Activity: Smartboard activity

The students will take turns to play this game by standing in two line as two groups
holding a fly swat to point to the stage that I will be saying it. (10
mins.)

Assessment:
Science Book
-Solving page 24 in their Learner’s books. (10
-Checking their answers with their neighbor (Discussion in pairs) before discussing the answer mins,)
with me as one big group

Homework:
Drag and drop interactive worksheet.

Culturally Relevant:
I will ask them to google any other plants (fruits, vegetables and flowers) that grow in Egypt,
choose the one that they like it and get printed photos of its life cycle.
