UNIT 1 - VOCABULARY LIST

1. Business
- The activity of buying and selling goods and services.
- A particular company that buys and sells goods and services.
2. Business Start-up
- A new business, or the activities involved in starting a new business.
3. Enterprise
- An organization, a company, or a business.
4. Private enterprise
- Businesses owned by ordinary people, not by the government
5. Enterprise culture
- An atmosphere which encourages people to make money through their own activities and not rely on the government.
6. Enterprise economy
- An economy in which people will take risks when they invest their money, start new businesses,
7. Enterprise zone
- Part of a country where business is encouraged because there are fewer laws, lower taxes, etc.
8. Entrepreneur
- Someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new opportunity
9. Entrepreneurship
- Skill in starting new businesses, especially when this involves seeing new opportunities.
10. Self-employed
- Not working for an employer but finding work for yourself or having your own business.
11. Freelancer
- Someone who works on different projects with different companies instead of being a company employee.
12. Sole trader
- A sole trader is a self-employed person who owns and runs their own business as an individual.
13. Partnership
- A partnership is a kind of business where two or more people do trade or business. Each person contributes money, property,
labor or skill, and shares in the profits and losses of the business.
14.Limited Liability
- Limited liability is a legal status in which a person's financial liability is limited to a fixed sum, most commonly the value of a
person's investment in a corporation, company or partnership.
- A situation in which the owners or other shareholders of a company are not responsible for all of its debts if the company fails.
15. Corporate
- Relating to a large company with limited liability.
16. Corporate culture
- The beliefs and ideas that a company has and the way in which they affect how it does business and
how its employees behave.
17. Corporate ladder
- A series of increasingly important jobs that someone can do within a company.
18. Corporate headquarters
- Corporate headquarters is the part of a corporate structure that deals with important tasks such as strategic planning,
corporate communications, taxes, law, books of record, marketing, finance, human resources, and information technology.
- Corporate headquarters is considered a business's most prestigious location.
19. Corporate logo
- A corporate logo is a symbol that represents and identifies your business. It distinguishes your business from others and hints
at your identity and values.
20. Corporate image
- The way in which a company appears to the public, and the opinion that people have about it.
21. Profit
- Money that is earned in trade or business after paying the costs of producing and selling goods and services.
22. Multinational
- Involving several different countries, or (of a business) producing and selling goods in several different countries:
23. Franchise
- The business of giving or selling a franchise (= the right to sell a company's product) to someone.
24. Free trade
- International buying and selling of goods, without limits on the amount of goods that one country can sell to another, and
without special taxes on the goods bought from a foreign country.
25. For-profit Business Organization
- One that operates with the goal of making money.
26. Not For-profit Business Organization
- A not-for-profit organization is an organization that focuses on a particular social cause.
27. Mission
- The result that a company or an organization is trying to achieve through its plans or actions.
28. Core Values
- Core values are the beliefs, philosophies, and principles that guide and direct the organization and its culture.
29. Vision
- A vision statement details where the organization aspires to go.
