Varroc Engineering
Company Overview:
Varroc Engineering Limited (Varroc) is a tier-1 automotive component
manufacturer with a global presence. The company specializes in supplying
exterior lighting systems, powertrains, electrical and electronics body and
chassis parts to passenger car and motorcycle segments. Founded in 1990,
Varroc is headquartered in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India, and operates more
than 30 manufacturing facilities in India, four in the European Union (EU), one
each in Vietnam and China, and two engineering centers in India and one in the
EU.
Challenges:
Varroc's business operations relied on an on-premises SAP Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) solution. The legacy system was running on dated
servers, operating systems, older versions of SAP and the database, and had
accumulated over 9TB of data. For optimal performance, the ERP system
required a database size of 3-4 TB, necessitating suitable data archiving for the
remaining data. Disaster Recovery (DR) services were also inefficient. These
issues had a cascading effect on business operations, causing performance
problems, growth limitations, business continuity risks, and security concerns.
Solution:
Varroc faced a choice between upgrading the legacy system with new hardware
or embracing a modern cloud-based approach. The move to the cloud offered
several advantages, including improved business functionality, flexibility, cost
optimization, updated technology, agility, and enhanced security. After
evaluating various cloud solutions, Varroc selected Microsoft Azure, leveraging
the familiarity and support offered by Microsoft, given their existing use of
Office 365.
InfraBeat Technologies, a Microsoft Partner, implemented the solution in just
four months. The migration included the latest SAP updates and optimization of
the database size. The solution utilized Azure Virtual Machines and Azure
Storage for a scalable data center infrastructure. The DR landscape hosted on
Azure ensures high availability and resiliency during outages.
Benefits:
Varroc has realized substantial benefits from its modern Azure-based cloud
solution:
● Improved Performance: Transaction times and response
times have seen an 80-90 percent improvement. Reports that once
took around 10 minutes to generate can now be created in a minute or
two. The build and restore system processing time was reduced by 78
percent.
● Enhanced Analytics: Integration of analytics tools with SAP
SoH (Suite on Hana) in the Azure environment enables faster and more
valuable analysis across the business.
● High Availability and Business Continuity: Optimized
database size, reduced from 9.35 TB to 1.08 TB, ensures high
