McGuire, Liam. “: Marvel Is More Popular Than DC, According To New Study.”

Published Apr 30, 2021.

This article explores the results of a study that focused on determining the popularity of Marvel

and DC universes along with their superheroes and supervillains. The study, which analyzed search

traffic data reveals that Marvel is the franchise being the most searched in 51 out of 60 countries,

particularly in North America. On the other hand, DC Comics performed well in Europe and Asia.

Marvel’s dominance at the box office remains strong.

Additionally, the study delves into the sought-after heroes and villains on a scale. Spider-Man

emerges as the hero closely followed by Wonder Woman likely influenced by the release of

"Wonder Woman 1984." Batman secures place.

What's interesting is that some known characters like Emplate surprisingly rank high among the

searched villains in several countries despite not appearing in live-action projects. These

unexpected findings highlight how comic book characters have appeal.

In conclusion, this article provides insights into preferences and popularity when it comes to

Marvel and DC franchises while shedding light on how recent movies and TV shows have

influenced their impact.

The study's reliance on search data gives us a glimpse into the curiosity and online involvement of

people when it comes to these comic book characters and the worlds, they exist in.

2. Marvel and DC are like two superhero teams, and people all around the world are choosing

which team they like more. This study looked at what people search for on the internet, like when

you Google your favorite heroes and comics. It turns out that Marvel is the clear winner in 51 out

of 60 countries. And Spider-Man is like the superstar of superheroes because he's the top pick in

57 countries! This shows that lots and lots of people really love Marvel characters. Even the bad

guys from Marvel, like Thanos, are getting lots of attention in 66 countries.

3. The article gets its info from a study by Game.co.uk, which looked at Google search data

worldwide to figure out which one's more popular: Marvel or DC. This data is trustworthy since

it's based on what people are looking up online, showing what fans are into. Even though the article

doesn't say much about the author, in the news and online stuff, they often report on studies without

going into who wrote it. So, the real trust comes from the study itself done by Game.co.uk.

4. People from the opposing side may discredit or attack the findings in the article using search

data simplifies a more complex topic like superhero preferences and that box office success is a

more dependable scale of popularity. They could point out that the timing of releases and cultural

differences could affect the findings, and that focusing on specific characters might not represent

the entire picture. They may also question the knowledge of the author and how online engagement

relates to the quality of the content.

5. Game.co.uk's search shows Marvel's dominance over DC in superhero popularity while

uncovering regional differences. It highlights lesser-known characters like Emplate and Daken,

suggesting a deeper love for superheroes beyond the usual fandom. With Spider-Man, Iron Man,

Thanos, and Batman leading the popularity, it challenges our assumptions about fan favorites.
