FRAMO SYSTEM ALAM CANTIK

Refer to section 8.1 of the Service Manual for Cargo pumping system Volume – 1
Hydraulic oil filling/venting procedure.
DRAINING OF HIGH PRESSURE LINE :
1. Stop the Feed Pump.
2. Isolate all the service valves of all consumers including the winches.
3. Close only the LP side valve of the Heating and Venting Valve which is
considered to be the highest point on the system.

4. Now connect the hose to the H.P side with the Transfer pump suction and
discharge to the Clean Drain Tank ( in the purifier room ).
5. Open the suction and discharge ball cocks and start the transfer pump.
6. At this time, the vent plug at the heating and venting valve must be opened to
prevent HP line creating vacuum. ( Our ship approx time for running the transfer
pump to suck all the oil is about 30 minutes and the oil collected in the drain tank
is about 600 ltrs. This can be ascertained when we open the flange at our working
place and seeing the oil coming out – if required again run the pump for some
time.)
7. Once there is no pressure in the line, open the flange for work and you will still
get about 150 ltrs of oil coming out slowly which you should collect properly to
avoid pollution.
8. Now we are ready for dismantling the line for changing O-ring or repair.
FILLING THE HIGH PRESSURE LINE :
1. After repairing the pipe etc, change over the transfer pump discharge hose to the
H.P line for filling and suction to the clean drain tank.

2. Start transfer pump and vent air till oil comes out from the air vent plug of the
highest point in the system which is the heating and venting valve. Remember,
this time, the LP side valve is still closed.
3. At this time, depending on the situation , we may have finished all the oil of the
drain tank and still no oil coming out from the vent plug which we are venting . In
this situation, connect the suction of the transfer pump to the hydraulic oil storage
tank and discharge to the HP line till you find oil is coming out at the vent.
4. Ensure there is no air coming out in the venting plastic hose, in form of minute air
bubbles, when you are venting at the heating-venting valve’s vent plug.
5. After satisfied with the venting, open the LP side ball valve at the heating-Venting
Valve and start 1 feed pump only. Before you are ready to run the feed pump,
make sure the feed tank level is at 80%. Fill up if required by the transfer pump
from the storage tank.
6. Wait for some time and while running the feed pump, purge again through the
vent plug at the heating – vent valve. Continue this purging till we are satisfied
that there is no air bubbles in the plastic hose which we are using for venting.
7. After satisfied with the purging, now 2 feed pumps are run and 1 power pack is
started with min. system pressure of 70 bar. Now you open the consumer valve of
the pipe which you repaired ( in our case it was no.5 stbd COP inlet) and still keep
all other consumer valves closed.
8. Ensure that the control of no.5 stbd COP is in local control position, you give the
control from CCR to local for the No.5 stbd COP.
9. Run the 5 Stbd.COP locally for only 15 seconds with min.pressure which is 50
bar only and stop the pump. Now purge the STC thoroughly ( 3 vent plugs ) and
also the non return valve block’s vent plug at the outlet line of the COP. At the
same time, go to the heating-venting valve’s vent plug and purge there also. Do
this repeatedly till you are sure no small bubbles can be seen in the venting hose.

10. Now the system is ready for normal use but still we have to open all consumer
valves.
11. Open all consumer valves one by one, still running the system at the lowest
pressure of 70 bar and putting all pumps control to local side, run all pumps one
by one at min 50 bar pressure only for 15~20 seconds each, stop and purge at the
STC ( 3 points ) and the return line vent. Also do not forget to purge the winches
and windlass return line vent.
12. After satisfied with the purging of air, now we can shift back all local control of
the pumps to CCR and increase the system pressure to normal for checking the
leakage at the defective pipe.
13. Satisfied with all, run the winches rope drum etc at full system pressure.
14. After this, we can stop the power pack but 1 system feed pump must be running.
15. After about 12 hrs, purge again all the purging points and continue to do so till
you are totally sure of no air.
16. Please ensure all dust caps are put back on top of the vent plugs.

This concludes our process of draining the system and after repair, filling back the
system.
