Updates of the Unique Features of a Destination
Accommodation
Guests nowadays are looking for
different
services being provided by the
hospitality industry,
unlike before when the only focus is a
comfortable
bed, availability of hot and cold shower,
toiletries,
and mini bar. Architectural design, which
can provide
"Instagrammable" background, is one of the
factors being considered by the clients apart from
the brand, star rating, or review.
The accommodation sector ensures that it provides the market its updated services
that are at part with international standards. It takes into consideration the expectations of
the guests who have high standards, who are used to navigating websites, and who can
easily book online.
Although it is à must to develop and tailor the services provided through technology,
there should also be new and unique features offered to continuously achieve Customer
satisfaction such as innovative wellness options through menu choices or well-being and
fitness programs; and facilities and amenities including air purification, lighting amenities
that energize, yoga spaces, din even vitamin-infused shower water. Adoption of green
practices has also become a part of the tourism planning and development of the
accommodation sector. Thus, many hotels have begun offering locally sourced toiletries,
installed solar panels, and updated their air conditioning and lightning systems that
automatically get switched off when the guests leave their rooms.

Transportation
The transportation
system in the
Philippines is besieged with an
enormous challenge-the congestion.
However, on the part of commuters, this
problem is now being addressed by
service provider-Grab, which offers
comfort ability, cleanliness, and safety.
Although the government supports eco
friendly transport solutions, only a few have been produced. The University of the Philippines
collaborated with the DOST's Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging
Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) for the development and eventual rollout
of the transport projects. The first project implemented was "Intelligent Electric
Transportation Network" or "Intellect" which is basically a fleet of electric tricycles and
an UP-developed monitoring system to track, monitor, and provide data on these e-vehicles
or EVs. UP and DOST bare public launch of "green' transport projects (Joel Pinaroc, 2019).
Still, there are initiatives and programs promoting the use of electric vehicles. Today, several
electric vehicles are roaming around the country like Electric Jenney’s (e-Jepney), Electric
Tricycles (e-Trike). Electric Shuttles, and Electric Quad tricycles. Development of the
transportation
sector requires careful understanding
and
analysis. It also incorporates the use of
technology, design, and routing
system. In the Philippines, there is an
ongoing program for the modernization
of
the country's premier mode of transportation
the jeepneys. The Public Utilities Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) includes
the phasing out of public utility vehicles (PUVs) that are over 15 years old by vehicles with
low-carbon and low-emission technology.
Like any other mode of transportation, the airline industry also finds ways to provide
excellent and quality service through the adoption of better in-flight services and smart
design seating and utility innovations. The aspects to be considered in the development are
technology, personalized services, speed and efficiency, designs and interiors, comfort, and
convenience.
Attraction
Travelers have a lot
of things to
consider before choosing a
destination to
visit. It could be to discover unique
places, create memories, cross
something out from their bucket
lists, learn something, satisfy one's
self, or escape from everyday stress
in life. For others, they include certain
places or tourist attractions in their bucket lists because these are incredibly popular or have
not been previously explored before. Thus, even an unknown location becomes a must-see
destination.
It is important to note that aside from developing the infrastructure of the tourism
site, there should be available activities for the tourists that will make them want to go back.
Activities should be relevant or aligned on the tourism site, as the tourists nowadays are
impulsive and seek out new products and experiences. They are even willing to take
longer trips to check out underdeveloped destinations or the so-called Virgin Islands, make
do with inadequate accommodations, and disregard the language barrier just to marvel the
nature's splendor and beauty.
The Philippines is known for its rich biodiversity with thousands of islands as main
tourist destinations. The government ensures the improvement of infrastructure and access
to transportation so that tourists will easily reach their separated destinations.

Events
According to the
Department of
Tourism, the Philippines is
a pioneer in
conventions. The country
can easily
host an international event
with
expertise and creativity. On top of this,
the country offers additional perks
because Filipinos are known for their
hospitality. They easily extend a welcoming approach to every visitor and make the guests
feel at home even when they are miles away from theirs. Thus, when the tourists have
returned to their homeland, they have lots of memories to cherish for a lifetime.
Slowly but surely, the country gained a reputation as an ideal place for various types
of events from international summits to sports events to beauty pageants. The travel
industry partners continuously promote the events sector and even the academe now
expose students through organizing different types of events to prepare them in the
corporate world.
As part of the events sector development, there is a continuous investment both in
public and private entities; including hotels to build, renovate, and expand events places. In
the Philippines, there are various types and classification of events based on objectives and
purposes: festivals and fiestas, life events (e.g. weddings birthdays, anniversaries, and
parties), organizational events (e.g. product launching, exhibitions, trade fairs, and road
shows), leaning events (e.g. conferences, seminars, trainings, conventions, meetings, and
incentives), sports events, political events, and fund-raising events. In the academe, events
management is already taught as part of the curriculum. Some activities mentioned above
are already being executed by the students either inside their university or in an events
place.
In analyzing the unique features that make the tourism product more timely
and relevant to the needs of its market, it is important to focus on the uniqueness of the
product so that more guests will be drawn to experience it.
The distinctiveness of a tourism project will create an experience beyond compare
such that guests will keep on coming back. This is the importance of keeping one's study or
project exceptional and unique.
Review of tourism supply components

1. Natural Resources and Environment

The Philippines
is blessed
with an array of
natural resources
and an environment
that is very
conducive for tourism
activities.
The country offers a
lot of raw,
unspoiled beautiful
sceneries and
geographical formations of land
and water. Knowing these natural
gifts from nature, the study of
tourism plan should consider the supply and demands of the guests. These demands
should not in any way damage or destroy the tourist destinations or affect the culture and
beliefs of the local communities.
For example, in answering the demands of guests for the food sector, the tourism
suppliers should always use biodegradable or nature-friendly materials so as not to damage
the tourist destination's environment. In support to this, the local government of Quezon
City was able to manage the use of
plastics
in their vicinity through the passage
and
regulating the use of E-Trike in the
city
and Waste to Energy proposal
projects. On Ordinance No. SP-2350,
S
2014 An Ordinance Providing for the
Environmental Protection and Waste
Management Code of Quezon City,
introduced by Councilor Gian Carlo G. Sotto
And Councilor Jesus Manuel C. Suntay.

SECTION 2. STATEMENT OF VISION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT OF QUEZON

CITY--Quezon City aims to build a quality community that is characterized by balanced and
healthful ecology in accord with and harmony of nature. It is achieved by espousing
sustainable development in establishing a lifestyle city that provides a consortium of
conveniences for people living and/or working in this area. The former Quezon City Mayor
Herbert Bautista has further initiated measures to promote environmental protection in the
city. This was more evident after the city government through the initiative of Bautista
received 300 electronic tricycles (E-trike) from the Department of Energy (DOE). Bautista,
DOE director III Atty. Cesar G. Dela Fuente III, and QC Department of Public Order and
Safety (DP0S) head Elmo San Diego led officials in the turnover ceremony. The E-trike
Project is part of DOE's program to promote energy efficiency and clean technologies in the
transport sector. Thirty e-trikes will be distributed to the city's barangays while 270 will be
given to the various Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations or TODA. (Department of
Energy, 2019)
This is a great practice that all of our local government should emulate and
implement.
For the transportation sector, the use of electrical vehicles is also a great idea to
maintain and care for the cleanliness of our environment. The cities of Manila and Taguig
are already implementing the usage of this.
1. Built Environment
The Philippine infrastructure and
superstructures are on its way for improvement
and
development. There have been a lot of ongoing
major
constructions in different parts of the region.
These
constructions will pave the way for better
accessibility
on major tourist spots and attractions. Making our
destinations more accessible to tourists, it will give
them more comfort and enjoyment during their stay.
Tourism development also depends upon the initiative and support of the local
government. Local government has the power to recommend certain projects and allocate
budget for tourism growth in their locality. It may also conduct a joint venture of all the

stakeholders like the host community and the tourism suppliers from both private and public
sectors.
The local government has the control of all tourism projects and activities, the
following are the Project Work Plan according to the Tourism Guide Book for LGUs (see
the reference section for the suggested Tourism Book Guide):

Conduct tourism training/workshop for planning committee

Data Gathering

Site/Attraction evaluation and prioritization

Planning workshop

Finalization of goals, objectives, and strategies

Identification of Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs)

Prioritization of PPAs

Packaging of the tourism development plan

1. Tourism Training/Workshop for Planning Committee

Before deciding for a particular project, the local government may conduct a
workshop on a certain planning committee, so that this working committee, will be fully
equipped with the basic knowledge that concerns the involved project.

2. Data Gathering
At this stage, the committee may conduct rigid research, interviews, and survey to
gather data that may affect the tourism project. This is to ensure the sustainability and
maintenance of the tourism product. This activity could also help in identifying the feasibility
of the project and assessing the perception of the people who will be involved and affected.

3. Site/Attraction Evaluation and Prioritization

At this point, an ocular visit shall be conducted to determine the actual condition of
the place or the potential tourism project. This is to ensure that the program is suited to the
place itself, as well as the entire stakeholders interests.

4. Planning Workshop
There will be continuous workshop to ensure that the plan is tested and feasible in
nature.

5. Finalization of Goals, Objectives, and Strategies

After all the data have been gathered, there will be a finalization of the project based
on the objectives from which it was created and the ways on how the said tourism project's
requirements shall be enforced. Finalization of a project is done to make sure that it has
undergone different evaluation or improvement to ensure that its goals and objectives have
been met and appropriate strategies have been applied.

6. Identification of Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAS)

At this stage, there will be an identification and documentation of other connected
projects and activities involving the place. This involves follow-up projects for the
betterment of the tourism destination. Long-term sustainability should be considered at this
point in time. PPAS should not only meet the requirements but also ensure that its
objectives are met.

7. Prioritization of PPAs
Prioritization of PPAs in the areas or destinations that require them are the most
needed improvement. Through the data gathering process and needs assessment, the
stakeholders can identify which specific PPAs should be prioritized and which can be the
most helpful to provide long-term and sustainable benefits, not only to the host community
but to the tourist attractions as well.
8. Packaging of the Tourism Development Plan
Tourism PPAs should also take into consideration other related concerns besides the
business or economic aspects. PPAs should also have a good impact on environment and the
social needs of the community. PPAs should be incorporated in the packaging or marketing
of the tourist destination to enable the people to know more about the latest tourism
projects that are being enforced in the tourism area of destination.
Policies and laws relevant to tourism should be identified prior to planning and
development to avoid implications towards the attractions, communities, and other
businesses.
