3x1 x2 5
Problem 1: Consider the following system:
x1 2 x2 3
a) Solve the system by using Cramer’s rule.
b) Solve the system by using an inverse matrix.
c) Solve the system by using Gaussian elimination.
Problem 2: Consider the following system:
𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 3𝑧 = 4
{ 2𝑥 − 𝑦 + 5𝑧 = 3
−𝑥 + 2𝑦 − 𝑧 = 0
𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 3𝑧 = 0
{ 4𝑥 + 5𝑦 + 6𝑧 = 0
−𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 5𝑧 = 0
𝑥 + 𝑦 + 𝑎𝑧 = 1
{𝑥 + 𝑎𝑦 + 𝑧 = 1
𝑎𝑥 + 𝑦 + 𝑧 = 𝑎
Problem 5: Megan went clothes shopping and bought 2 pairs of flare jeans, 2 camisoles, and 4
T-shirts for $90.000. At the same store, Paige bought one pair of flare jeans and 4 T-shirts for
$42.50, while Kara bought 1 pair of flare jeans, 3 camisoles, and 2 T-shirts for $62.00. Determine
the price of each clothing item by using Gaussian elimination.
Problem 6: An investor will invest a total of $15,000 in two accounts, one paying 4% annual
simple interest and the other 3%. If he wants to earn $550 annual interest, how much should he
invest at each rate?

Problem 7: There are two cars moving towards each other and are 600 miles apart. One car is
moving at a speed of 100 mph and the other is moving at 80 mph. Assuming that the cars start
moving at the same time how long does it take for the two cars to meet?
Problem 8: A movie theater is filled to capacity of 350. The theater charges $4.50 for children,
$7.50 for students, and $12.50 of adults. There are half as many adults as there are students. If the
total ticket sales was $2415. How many children, students, and adults attended?
