Since the main purpose of the standards is to ensure that practitioners achieve the
“standard” in their work it is important that they are written in a way which will support
this. It is also important to present non dictated manner of individual in organizing the
tasks ensuring that all of the different ways of doing a job are valid and systems must be
in place to ensure this is so. The guidelines for crime scene management are discussed
below.
The standards also give guidance on what evidence of performance is required to prove
competence; this is given under evidence requirements. The standards also offer some
suggestions as to likely sources of evidence of competence described under assessment
guidance.
Management of a crime scene is the process of ensuring the orderly, accurate and
effective collection and preservation of physical evidence so that the evidence can be
used to take legal action. Further scientific analysis of evidence may become the
responsibility of the forensic laboratory.
Fire Scene Diagramming: the instructional area will assure the documents importance
with diagrams.
Case Management: Management is involved in finding the origin and cause of crime,
documents of evidence, statement of witnesses and owners. This includes several types of
practices such as identification of evidence, evidence photographing, evidence packaging.
At the end writing a search warrant affidavit and consider expert opinions.
