ASSIGNMENT 1

Due Date: Tuesday 25 April 2023

Marks: 100

INSTRUCTIONS

1. This is a Group assignment. Minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 students per group.


A group leader to be appointed and must submit a written report providing details on
how the group progressed throughout assignment. If a group member does nothing then
they must be removed from the group and they will not receive a mark.

2. Assignment to be typed. Use Ariel font size 12.

3. The assignment, on completion, must be handed to your lecturer in the classroom by


the due date. You may also be required to submit an electronic copy on Moodle so that an
electronic plagiarism check can be generated. Ensure all group members names and
student numbers appears on the assignment, along with the name of the subject and
programme you registered for.

4. Where you have consulted sources to assist in completing the assignment, you are
required to reference your work correctly by following the DUT version of the Harvard
Referencing Guide, both in-text and at the end of the assignment. (Guidelines on the
Harvard method of referencing are available on the DUT Library portal, an extract of
which is in your Learner guide.)

5. Please note that you cannot copy information directly from a textbook or the internet
and present it as your own work. If the assignment, or parts thereof, is/are
copied/plagiarised, then a zero (0) mark will be awarded. Furthermore, should a
student copy the entire assignment, or parts thereof, from other students, then ALL
the students will receive a zero (0) mark, and will be reported to the Registrar’s office
for disciplinary action.

6. By submitting an assignment students acknowledge that the work submitted is


their own, and that they have not copied from, nor have they paid, other people to
prepare the assignment on their behalf.

7. Your assignment should comprise 10-12 pages, excluding cover page and annexures.

ASSIGNMENT TOPIC

Critically discuss how change in the external environment variables (macro-environment)


comprising of but not limited to: economic, social, technological, natural, political and
international) could possibly impact on the businesses, consumers and our country South
Africa.
By reflecting on the past, present and future discuss using relevant examples how your
findings from the analysis of the macro environment could impact on both the South African
economy and South African businesses. In your answer you should provide examples of the
types of business that might be affected.

N.B. – You are required to do extensive research to identify the opportunities and threats in the macro
environment. In addition, we are looking for YOUR opinion and recommendations moving
forward, which must be substantiated by reference to relevant literature, newspaper articles,
journals and legislation.

Marking Rubric.
Marks will be awarded for the following:

- Presentation (including, layout, grammar, spelling)


- Appropriate in-text referencing and Bibliography/List of references
- Ability to answer the question (content), the logic of the argument presented.
- The “student’s voice”.
