The EPL system considers the consequence of an explosion rather than the likelihood. Ensure the insulation resistance to earth does not exceed 160. Or it the surface area of the non-metallic parts Sources of Ignition EN 1127-1 Non-Electrical * Use of unprotected flame. * Use of equipment in which parts, under normal operation, operate at or exceed the Ignition Temperature of the hazardous substance present. * Equipment failure in normal operation and/or due to expected and rare malfunctions. * Thermite ignition Note: ATEX and the Non-electrical Standard BS EN ISO 80079-36 refers to the RISK ASSESSMENT for mechanical equipment, and EN 1127-1 provides a complete listing of Ignition Risks. ‘© EPIT Limited 2020Thermite Ignition When light alloys such as aluminium, magnesium, zirconium and titanium collide with rusty steel an incendive spark may be produced. Compliance enforced July 1st 2003 for all NEW Ex equipment placed on the market within the EU, the equipment may also need to comply with other relevant Directives for CE marking. Manufacturers could follow the old Directives and State Regulations until June 30, 2003, thereafter, full compliance required to ATEX 94/9/EC for Ex equipment and assemblies. This directive is also known as ATEX 95 and is one of the directives used to improve trade between European nations by removing technical barriers.
