Knockout fixture

• No. of teams= N
• Number of matches= n-1
• No of teams in upper half = N/2 (if N is even); (n-1)/2 (if n is odd)
• No of teams in lower half= N/2 (if N is even); (n+1)/2 (if n is odd)
• No of rounds= 2 to the power next value of N
• No of byes= 2 to the power next value of N- N
• No of byes in U half= nb/2 (nb is even); (nb-1)/2 (nb is odd)
• No of byes in L half= nb/2 (nb is even); (nb+1)/2 (nb is odd)

League fixture

• Single league no of matches= {n(n-1)}/2


• Double league no of matches= (n-1)/2

Deciding the winner in league tournament

• British method= (secured points/max possible points) *100


• American method= (total no of matches won/total no of matches played) *100

Cycling method

• No of rounds= n-1 (n is even)


• No of rounds= N (n is odd)

Tabular method

• No of rounds= n-1 (n is even)


• No of rounds= N (n is odd)
• No of boxes (n is even) = N+1
• No of boxes (n is odd) = N+2
