Maintenance is the work done to keep or restore equipment to an acceptable working standard at a
minimum cost.

i) Preventive maintenance: They are actions carried out to avoid breakdown of the equipment by
constantly inspecting, cleaning, dusting and carrying out all necessary activities, to ensure the
machine is working well.
ii) Predictive maintenance: The act of monitoring the state of a machine, using computer, measuring
instruments and alarm or warning light to give the user a warning of possible breakdown.
iii) Corrective maintenance: They are actions carried out after there has been a breakdown.
