This pressure is transmitted to a disc set via the working piston. The
disc set establishes a link between the front and rear axles.
Torque is thus transferred to the rear axle.
Hydraulic control The electrical oil pump as well as the annular piston pumps extract
the oil from the oil sump of the Haldex viscous coupling. The oil
flows into the accumulator via an oil screen and a filter.
The accumulator acts as a damper against the pressure
fluctuations of the fuel delivery pumps and limits the pressure of
the electrical fuel delivery pump to 4 bar.
The pressure then acts upon the working pistons of the discs
through the high-pressure valves via the regulating valve,
bypassing the safety valve.
The regulating piston governs the pressure at the working piston of
the discs.
Electronics The Haldex control unit is linked to the engine control unit and the
ABS control unit via the CANbus.
- Haldex control unit Several parameters of the engine control unit as well as the ABS
control unit provide the Haldex control unit with the necessary
information on vehicle operating state. Based on this information,
- System overview the Haldex control unit decides whether to engage the Haldex
viscous coupling fully or partially, or to open it.
The Haldex viscous coupling is activated via the pressure
regulator. The Haldex control unit controls the pressure regulator,
and hence also pressure, by means of an actuator.
Temperature sender The Haldex control unit recognises the hydraulic fluid temperature
(Haldex viscous coupling) via the temperature sender of the Haldex viscous coupling and
responds to the changing viscosity of the hydraulic fluid via the
regulating valve. The temperature monitoring also serves as
protection.
If the temperature rises excessively under extreme load, the
regulating valve is opened for max. 2 minutes and the clutch is
depressurised.
Longitudinal acceleration In vehicles fitted with Haldex viscous coupling, the front and rear
sender wheels are rigidly coupled.
The calculation of vehicle road speed based on the data supplied
by the individual wheel sensors may be too inaccurate at low
coefficients of friction and with the Haldex viscous coupling
closed.
The measured longitudinal acceleration serves to validate the
calculated road speed.
