About This Product

Since the release of Iron Cross I have been publishing


game scenarios so that wargamers can always have an
experience at their gaming table.

These scenarios were part of several Saturday


afternoons, where my group and I played on different
fronts of the war. So I decided to bring together in a first
book the 22 scenarios that we have published so far.
In this organization I ended up making a correction and
working on some important concepts.

Firstly, all scenarios on the European front received


the letter “A” followed by the serial number for their
identification. The “C” series was for North Africa and
the “P” series for the Pacific.

The “B” series, not yet released, will be for the
scenarios of our future expansion of the so-called Original Concept Design: Antônio Marcelo,
Alternative WWII, based on our wargame Hotwar, Jorge Bentes e Helder Farago

So the A11 set is a WWII European Theater set and can Playtesters : Antônio Marcelo, Jorge Bentes,

“The Last Tiger” Scenario Design: Antônio Marcelo

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A1 German Border - 15, 1945, 9:30 AM - After advancing through
the Ardennes, the American army enters Germany through its
border. However halfway there was a lone Royal Tiger and
remnants of the 2nd. Waffen SS Das Reich division, are on their
way, trying at all costs to stop their advance. The terrain will be
sold at a very high cost, as the fight has now arrived in Greater
Germany, and the SS fanatics will fight to the end! A bloody
battle will take place.

“The Farm House” Scenario Design: Antônio Marcelo

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A2


Villers Boccage - Normandy, August, 1944 : The Allies
advance through France quickly, facing German resistance.
Despite the victories, the Americans discover that the local
vegetation and the apparent peaceful climate hide deadly
traps. The 82nd Airborne soldiers discover this in the worst
way, being victims of constant ambushes and fire from the
terrible MG-42!

Riga Surroundings - Russia - November 1944: Several


IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A3 German platoons are found in pockets, or scattered across
Russian territory. The objective is to retreat to regroup and set
up a line of defense to contain the red army. Each man becomes
an essential element for the future struggle and has to return to
the front. The troops will take advantage of the darkness of the
night, to evade its components without the Russians being able
to locate and attack. However, many Soviet troops are waiting
for the Germans, and they are thirsting for revenge.

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A4


Proximities to Monte Prano, Italy September 1944: The
Brazilian Expeditionary Force has been in Italy for two
months and has started its first combat against the Germans.
Even at the beginning of the campaign, Brazilians had to face
several surprises, one of them the German machine gun, MG-
42, which became known as “Sinhá Lurdinha.” This fight is
one of the first BEF baptisms of fire in the Italian campaign.

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENERY A5


Russian Steppes, September 29, 1941: Barbarossa
Operation is a success, and Hitler begins to look at Moscow
avidly. On the 26th of this month, the Typhoon operation
began to crush the rest of the Red Army and take the Russian
capital. In a desperate attempt to contain the advance, the
Russians throw everything they have at Panzer’s fists.

“Regroup” Scenario Design: Antônio Marcelo

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENERY A6


Near Leningrad, summer, 1942: Operation Nordlicht is aas
launched by the Germans to break the siege of Leningrad
and take the city. Several Russian troops were taken by
surprise with the start of the massive German bombing. The
Russians were already preparing with Sinyavino Offensive, to
break the German attack and regroup. Elements of the 327th
rifle division are taken aback by a retreat by the Germans.
However, unexpected help from the Tachankas can change
the course of the battle.

“The Cats Anger” Scenario Design: Antônio Marcelo

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A7 Berlin Outskirts - April 19, 1945, 2:30 PM - The final chapter
of the 6-year-old Nazi adventure in Europe is coming to an end. It
looks like Hitler’s insanity is finally going to end. The Russians are
at the gates of Berlin, with a powerful force of armored vehicles
and men eager to enter the den of the fascist beast. The siege will
begin, however fanatical Nazi soldiers will resist until the end.
With the order and Hitler not to surrender, numerous fanatics will
still resist. Two Ostwallturms are positioned near one of the city
accesses, ready to sell their lives at a high cost to enemies.

“Nightmare” Scenario Design: Antônio Marcelo

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A9 Estonia, September, 1944, 7:30 AM - Started by the Russian
army, the Baltica offensive is in full swing. The Red Army has
been systematically pushing the Germans back to the West, causing
enormous damage to Hitler’s hosts. In mid-September, the Soviet
2nd Shock Army begins the Tallinn offensive to dislodge the
Estonian Germans once and for all and start the race to Germany.
However, in the middle of his path, one of Adolf Hitler’s most
potent weapons decides to block his way. It was something that,
in the minds of many, was restricted only to the domain of the
imagination. The nightmare appears on the battlefield, and its name
is only one: Ratte.

Poland Border - Russia - June 1944: The Operation


IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A9 Bagration Begins - Germany begins the great resistance and
the Red Army advances inexorably in Poland. The Germans
have to hold on to the red giant that is getting closer and closer
to the central Poland every day. Defending a hill near Orsha a
small Wermacht group has to detain the Russians to ensure the
withdrawal of injured and tired troops for future reunification.
The Russian war machine is in full swing heading west in
search of revenge after almost 3 years of fighting in its territory.
The order is to proceed to Germany!

Poland September 5, 1939 - First morning hours: The


IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A10 German army breaks through the Polish border in a wild
rush, taking everything in front of it. The surprise is total,
and the Polish army is taken by surprise, trying to oppose
some resistance to German Blitzkrieg. The 4th German army
advances through the region of the Pomeranian Corridor and
finds the Army Pomorze ahead, trying to stop them at all costs.
These elements of the Polish army must at all costs stop the
German war machine to try to turn the conflict around.

swing. the Red Army attacked Army Group Center in Belarus,
aiming to encircle and destroy its main components. By June,
the German 4th Army had already been destroyed, along with
most of the Third Panzer and Ninth Armies. By the time of
spring 1944 offensive, the Dnieper flotilla consisted of no less
than 140 boats and ships, included, in out case, 16 armored
gunboats. These boats supported army actions across the rivers.

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A13 Normandy, 2:30AM, 6 June 1944: The big day has arrived!
The allies return to Europe to fight the Nazi evil. The 6th of
June, known as D-DAY, begins well before landing on the
beaches. Thousands of paratroopers will jump at dawn in the
Normandy area to start the invasion, causing chaos in enemy
lines and destroying strategic positions. It’s a great moment in
the war, and it’s going to start the race for Berlin! However, not
everything goes unnoticed by the Germans. Some measures
have been taken and the allies will not have any kind of ease,
even causing surprise to the enemy.

The city is gradually being dominated by the German army,
which causes several consecutive defeats to the red army. An
attack made by elements of the 24th. army try to take a position
defended by the Germans in order to gain an advantage in the
battle in the city. Stalin’s order is not to retreat and face the
enemy with suicidal courage. If Stalingrad falls, Germany
will have access to the still untouched resources of the Soviet
Union. The Russians are ready to attack and the sacrifice must

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A15 Stalingrad, 15 October 1942, Barrikady Factory Complex:
After the September battles, much of the fighting in Stalingrad moved
north to the so-called industrial district. The Germans having advanced
slowly for more than 10 days faced strong Soviet resistance, from the
51st Army Corps, but was finally in front of the three giant factories
of Stalingrad: the Red October Factory, the Barrikady Weapons
Factory and the Stalingrad Tractor Factory. . For a few more days
the Germans prepared for an all-out offensive against the site. On
October 14, exceptionally intense bombardment cleared the way for
the first German assault groups. The main attack (led by the 14th
Panzer Division and 305th Infantry Division) attacked towards the
tractor factory, while another attack led by the 24th Panzer Division
struck south of the giant factory.

IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY A17 French/Belgian Border - May 27, 1940: Belgium, after
18 days, is falling against the German army. Even with the
efforts of the British Expeditionary Force and the resistance
of the Belgian army, nothing stopped the German Blitzkrieg
compression roller. The order is now an British retreat to save
the rest of the BEF. To this end, the Belgian army will try to
oppose one last resistance, covering the English retreat towards
the sea towards Calais and Dunkirk. It is a time to hold the line
that remains for a withdrawal of allied forces.

lost, and confused. Many units lost their men in the fall, or are
scattered. A group of 101.th Airborne elements have gathered
and are heading towards Carentan. Along the way, they will
meet the dreaded 6th Fallschirmjäger, waiting for bloody
combat.

Libyan Deserts, December 1941: The North African
Campaign is in full swing, and Afrika Korps begins its
winning streak against the English. Desert warfare is a little
different from conventional war, where the fuel, water,
and supplies factor is vital to any fight. The tanks become
authentic ships of sand and the desert an endless ocean.
A group of Afrika Korps armored vehicles meets British
Crusader in a fierce battle in Libya.

Night Combats
We introduced in this scenario the first rules of
fighting at night. These combats are differentiated
and can be applied in different game scenarios. Let’s
present below:

- The visibility of any unit (be it infantry, armor,


artillery, etc.) in relation to another unit is 25 cm,
that is, beyond this distance it is hidden by the
darkness.

- All troops have a -1 penalty on hit roll.

- Fires cause normal visibility within a radius of 20


cm from the central point of the fire.

- Combat flare can be used. At the start of the turn,


the player must declare that he has launched a flare
on the battlefield.

In this turn, visibility will be normal for all parts


in it. At the end of the same night rules continue to
apply.
The number of flare must be combined by both
parties.

- Vehicles can use headlights, increasing their vision


by 35 cm. For this, the player must declare in the
movement phase that the headlights are on.

The small houses in the village of Sidi BArrini are considered to be two-story houses, as the
terrace would function as a second floor. All are considered masonry houses for gaming purposes.
Large houses are considered two-story houses. Troops on the terraces of the houses are treated as
soft-cover and inside the houses as hard-cover.

Troops inside houses can fire only through windows and buildings, with lines of sight.The walls
are painted as a soft cover, despite being made of stone. They would be low walls and give a degree
of protection to the units involved.The building rules are available in the Iron Cross Core Book

“Hell Jungle” Scenario Design: Antônio Marcelo
Guadalcanal, November 1942, Point Cruz Area: The
IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY P1 Battle for Guadalcanal enters a phase of advantage
for the Americans. Despite the first fierce fighting at the
beginning of the campaign and the famous naval battle,
the pendulum of victory begins to tip for the Americans
and several campaigns mainly in the area of Koli Point
and the incursions of Carlson´s Patrol. The Point Cruz
area is a remnant area of Japanese forces, which are
concentrated in attempting a last stand. However, more
experienced Americans are going to clean up the area.

“Banzai Charge” Scenario Design: Antônio Marcelo
Guadalcanal, after midnight on August 21, Alligator Creek:
IRON CROSS - GAME SCENARY P2 The Battle of Guadalcanal remains fierce and the allies begin
to advance. However documents discovered on the bodies of
some of the Japanese officers killed on patrols showed detailed
information on US Marine positions around Lunga Point. The
documents did not exactly detail the size of the Japanese force
or whether an attack was imminent. Concerned about this, the
Smerician General Vandegrift, had prepared his defenses on
the east side of the Lunga perimeter, located on the Ilu River,
nicknamed Alligator Creek by the Marines. It is a tidal lagoon
separated from the ocean by a sandbar about 23 to 49 feet wide
and 98 feet long. On the night of August 21, a force of about
1000 men commanded by Japanese Colonel Kiyonao Ichiki
relentlessly attacked the place, in order to make the Americans
retreat. Combat is decisive for everyone at that moment.

WW2 MINIATURES WARGAME - SECOND EDITION

The game “Iron Cross” was born out of the desire of a group of “wargamers” from the 70s
/ 80s to simulate their historical battles from WWII, made in the past with maps and tokens,
using this time miniatures and 3D scenarios suitable to represent small and medium scale
tactical actions. We started in 2004, with the launch of our 1st — edition and in the following
two years, with the publication of several modules for the system.
The system stopped in 2007, due to some problems with the miniatures and the need to rewrite
the rules, since they were already well changed, due to the publication of several articles and
modules by us. We left the game in the public hands for a long time, and in this year 2020,
we are back in action.

We´ve been wanting to make small changes to the system for a few years now, mainly with
regards to the measurement scales and the introduction of the Suppression Fire mechanic.
In this new edition we will make this more realistic, in addition to working on three different
booklets in our system.

However for you who play our first edition, our material remains 100% compatible, as we
believe that changes should not harm our old material.That’s why we’re going to work with
our players to keep the gameplay original and above all fun.
