Purpose: An opportunity to assess and evaluate the patient’s understanding of the situation
and manage risks of post caesarian section.
Goal: To teach the patient on how to enhance the maternal safety & wellbeing through
incentive spirometer.

1. Two factors or variable that might affect the practice time needed by Anna to learn this new
skill are:
(a) Mental & Physical factors - will affect the overall critical thinking skills of the patient.
(b) Type of Nursing environment - may increase or decrease overall learning ability.

2. List the goal and purpose for learning in Anna’s teaching plan.
Purpose: An opportunity to assess and evaluate the patient’s understanding of the situation
and manage risks of post caesarian section.
Goal: To teach the patient on how to enhance the maternal safety & wellbeing through
incentive spirometer.

3. List one cognitive, one affective, and one psychomotor objective to achieve the goal for
learning.
Cognitive: Identify three reasons to call the doctor or nurse.
Psychomotor: Demonstrate procedure for incentive spirometer after each set of 10 breaths.
Affective: Express any concerns about post caesarean care.

4. List the teaching methods and instructional materials you will use to teach Anna, including
the reasons they were selected.
(a) 1:1 instruction & Written/picto-rial flipchart.
Allows the patient o make meaningful connections between concepts learned to real-life
situations. They offer an opportunity for the patient to demonstrate their knowledge
and course correct on their own when needed.

(b) 1:1 return demonstration & Written/pictor-ial flip chart, Incentive spirometer.
It is a way to confirm that you have explained to your patient what they need to know in
an understandable way. This method can also help you identify the strategies that are
most helpful for patient understanding.

(c) Discussion & Whiteboard, laboratory results and patient chart & history.
As you establish a rapport with your patient, you can demonstrate that you appreciate
their contributions at the same time that you challenge them to think more deeply and
to articulate their ideas more clearly. The information of resources gives the nurse kinds
of important clues about what's going on with your health.
