6. Survival of the Richest Report : Oxfam
According to a new study by Oxfam International, the richest 1% of people in India now own more than 40% of
the country’s total wealth, while the bottom half of the population together share just 3% of wealth.
The study, titled “Survival of the Richest,” was released on the first day of the World Economic Forum Annual
Meeting.
It states that female workers earned only 63 paise for every 1 rupee a male worker earned.
7. India surpasses China to become most populous country in the world
According to World Population Review (WPR), India has surpassed China as the world’s most populous nation.

9. 50 ASI-protected monuments disappear
According to the Ministry of Culture report titled ‘Issues relating to Untraceable Monuments and Protection of
Monuments in India’ submit to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, 50 of India’s 3,693 centrally protected
monuments have gone missing.
Only 248 monuments are protected by security guards.
10. ONGC top profit making public sector enterprises in 2021-22
According to the government of India’s Public Enterprise survey 2021-22, ONGC was the top profit making
central public sector enterprises (CPSE) in 2021-22.
After ONGC the other most profit making CPSE were Indian Oil Corporation, Power Grid, NTPC and SAIL.
11. Uttar Pradesh tops charts for mobile gaming destination in India
Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top destination for mobile gamers, followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan,
Bihar, and West Bengal, according to India Mobile Gaming Report 2022 by gaming platform Mobile Premier
League.
India’s gaming market was worth $USD 2.6 billion in the financial year 2022 and it will reach $8.6 billion by
2027 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27 percent.
India overtook Japan as the top user of mobile games in 2016.
2022 saw Lucknow rank among the top cities and outperform all major cities.
Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Himachal Pradesh saw the most increases in mobile gaming in
2022 compared to 2021.

Government schools saw a sharp rise in enrolment for the first time in 16 years
Basic literacy levels of children have taken a big hit, with their reading ability dropping to pre-2012 levels
Number of children enrolled in government schools increased from 65.6% in 2018 to 72.9% in 2022.
Percentage of girls in the age group of 11-14 years who were out of school declined from 4.1% to 2%
The decrease is even sharper among older girls in 15-16 years age group, from 13.5% in 2018 to 7.9% in 2022
According to the report, the average teacher attendance has increased from 85.4% in 2018 to 87.1% in 2022.
The number of schools with girls' toilet facilities has increased from 66.4% in 2018 to 68.4% in 2022.
There has been an increase in the number of schools having drinking water availability.
13. All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2020-2021
The Ministry of Education (MoE) released the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2020-2021, covering
all higher educational institutions located in Indian Territory and imparting higher education in the country.
Highlights:
The total enrollment of students in higher education has increased to nearly 4.14 crore in 2020-21 from 3.85
crores in 2019-20.
Female enrolment has increased to 2.01 crore from 1.88 crores in 2019-20.
14. Annual Death Penalty Report, 2022
Project 39A, a group associated with the National Law University recently released a report called the Annual
Death Penalty Report, 2022.
The National Law University was established under the NLUA Act of 2007.
According to the report, the number of death penalty prisoners in India increased to 539 in 2022.
It was 490 in 2021.
India has 539 death-sentenced prisoners as of 2022.
This is a 40% increase as compared to the numbers in 2015

15. Ministry of Defense becomes the largest buyer of MSME goods in 2022
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) informed that in 2022, the Ministry of Defense emerged as the largest
buyer through MSME sellers.
In 2022, the Ministry of Defense envisages procurement of goods and services worth Rs 16,747 crore from the
MSME sector. This was 250% more than the purchases made in 2021.
Among the states, Uttar Pradesh procured the maximum.
Compared to 2016, when GeM was first launched, its business has grown 17 times.

According to the recent Global Quality Infrastructure Index (GQII) 2021, the national accreditation system of
India under the Quality Council of India (QCI) has been ranked 5th in the world and overall quality
infrastructure system is in the Top 10
The GQII ranks the 184 economies in the world on the basis of quality infrastructure (QI).
The accreditation helps establish the competence and credibility of conformity assessment bodies which

19. Status Of India’s Nuclear Energy:
India’s nuclear power capacity experienced a significant increase. By 2021-22, it had risen to 47,112 Million
Units.
In 2017, the government gave simultaneous approval for 11 indigenous pressurised heavy water reactors with
a total capacity of 7,000 MegaWatts.
Nuclear energy is the fifth-largest source of electricity for India which contributes about 3% of the total
electricity generation in the country.
India has over 22 nuclear reactors in 7 power plants across the country which produces 6780 MW of nuclear
power. In addition, one reactor, Kakrapar Atomic Power Project (KAPP-3) has also been connected to the grid
in January- 2021.
KAPP-3 is the India’s first 700 MWe unit, and the biggest indigenously developed variant of the PHWR.
Government has also allowed Joint Ventures with PSUs to enhance India’s nuclear program.
As a result, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is now in two joint ventures with the
National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) and the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
In the past, India’s nuclear installations were mostly located in South India or in Maharashtra and Gujarat in the
west.
However, the government is now promoting its expansion to other parts of the country. As an example, the
upcoming nuclear power plant in Gorakhpur town of Haryana, which will become operational in the near
future.
The world’s first thorium-based nuclear plant, “Bhavini,” using Uranium-233, is being set up at Kalpakkam in
Tamil Nadu.
This plant will be entirely indigenous and will be the first of its kind. The experimental thorium plant “Kamini”
already exists in Kalpakkam

According to the report Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of colleges in the country, followed by
Maharashtra and Karnataka.
21. Gender Parity Index - UNESCO
The Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) for the age group 18-23 years has increased from 25.6% in 2019-20 to 27.3%
in 2020-21.
Gender Parity Index (GPI), the ratio of female GER to male GER, has increased from 1 in 2017-18 to 1.05 in
2020-21.
The female enrollment in North East states in 2020-21 is 6.14 lakh, which is higher than the male enrollment of
5.92 lakh, for every 100 male students, there are 104 female students in the North East region.
The report shows a nationwide increase of 7.5% in student enrollment in 2020-21 as compared to 2019-20.
About AISHE Survey
The Ministry of Education has been conducting this survey since 2011, it includes higher educational
institutions located in India.
The survey collects information on various parameters such as student enrolment, teacher data,
infrastructural, financial etc.
22. In AISHE 2020-21, for the first time data collection has been done using a completely online data collection
platform developed by the Department of Higher Education through National Informatics Center (NIC).
23. ‘Twenty Point Programme (TPP) progress report’ by National Statistical Office
The National Statistical Office, NSO, recently released a progress report on TPP. According to the report, only
41% of the fixed target was completed in 2022-23.
The aim was to build 125,000 km of road. But only 45,945 km has been completed.
The Government of India launched the TPP in 1975. It has been revised twice since its launch, once in 1982 and
then in 1986. The main objective of the program is to eradicate poverty and improve the lives of rural people
using 20 points.
Performance of a programme is considered ‘poor’ by the NSO if the level of targets achieved is below 80 per
cent.
24. IEA Report: India’s ‘LiFE’ initiative can save $440 bn globally in 2030
According to a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the 'LiFE' (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative
of India for the adoption of energy-efficient behaviour can save the world $440 billion in 2030.

25. India ranks first with 24 percent contribution to global milk production
India is the world's largest milk producer, contributing 24 per cent to global milk production in the year 2021-

(FAOSTAT).
India's milk production has registered a growth of 51 per cent during the last eight years - 2014-15 and 2021-22
National Programme for Dairy Development It was launched in February 2014 by merging three existing
schemes- Intensive Dairy Development Programme, Strengthening Infrastructure for Quality and Clean Milk
Production and Assistance to Cooperatives.

26. India slips to 42nd rank in US Intellectual Property Rights Index
India has slipped to the 42nd position in the International Intellectual Property Rights Index 2023 out of 55
countries for 2022.
It was launched by the US Chamber of Commerce's Global Innovation Policy Centre and is monitored by the
Indian government.
It evaluates the protection of IP rights in 55 of the world's leading economies, together representing
approximately 90% of global GDP.
The United States ranks first in the 2023 index.

Presently, NTPC contributes 24% of the total electricity produced in India.

36. National Contribution To Warming : India Ranking
The research published in the journal “Scientific Data’ ranked India fifth among the top 10 contributors to
global warming. Top Contributor: United States topped the list with its emissions causing 0.28°C (17.3%) of
rise in temperature. China stood second and Russia took third place. India’s Position: Since 2005, India
climbed to the fifth spot from the 10th. India is responsible for 0.08 degrees Celsius of warming from the

According to the India Justice Report 2022 released in New Delhi, Karnataka tops the list of states and Union
Territories in providing access to justice. Uttar Pradesh is at the 18th position, which is at the bottom.
Parameters- This study relies on overall statistics from four pillars of justice delivery: Police, Judiciary, Prisons
and Legal aid. The High Courts of Kerala and Odisha have the highest case disposal rates – 156% and 131%,
respectively – while the High Courts of Rajasthan (65%) and Bombay (72%) have the lowest, respectively.

India’s financial capital Mumbai is the only Indian city among the list of the world’s 19 best cities for public
transport, as per the report by Time Out.
Mumbai claimed the last spot, that means 19th spot on the list for great public transit, due to its wide-

40. India’s Forest cover increases by 1,540 sqkm between ISFR 2019 and ISFR 2021: FSI Report
As per latest India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2021, the total forest cover in the country is 7,13,789 square
kilometer. This is 21.71% of the geographical area of India.
The ISFR report is released by the Forest Survey of India (FSI), Dehradun, biennially, since 1987 based on forest
cover.
The last survey was done in 2019.

55. The Ministry of Jal Shakti released the report on the sixth census on minor irrigation schemes
As per the report, 23.14 million minor irrigation (MI) schemes have been reported in the country, out of which
21.93 million are Ground Water (GW) and 1.21 million are Surface Water (SW) schemes.
For the first time, the information about gender of the owner of MI scheme was also collected in case of
individual ownership.
Out of all the individually owned schemes, 18.1 per cent are owned by women.
Uttar Pradesh possesses the largest number of MI schemes in the country followed by Maharashtra, Madhya
Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The same ranking of states follows for the GW schemes.
Maharashtra leads in Surface Water schemes followed by Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha and Jharkhand.
The report also revealed that there has been an increase of about 1.42 million in MI schemes as compared to
the previous census.

Recently, the publication, titled "75 Endemic Birds of India," was released by the Zoological Survey of India

62. World Investment Report 2023: FDI in Developing Asia Remains Flat at $662 Billion in 2022
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) recently released its World Investment Report
2023, providing insights into foreign direct investment (FDI) trends in developing countries. In 2022, FDI in
developing countries in Asia reached a total of $662 billion, representing no change compared to the previous year.
The report also highlighted a global decline of 12% in FDI to $1.3 trillion in 2022. Among the developing countries
in Asia, 80% incoming FDI was highly concentrated in a few countries, namely, China (and Hong Kong), Singapore,
India, and UAE. During 2022, FDI inflows to India rose by 10% on an annual basis to $49 billion, while China
registered a 5% yearly growth to $189 billion.

NITI Aayog released the 'National Multidimensional Poverty Index: A Progress of Review 2023' in New Delhi. As per

2019-21 with the fastest reduction in UP, Bihar, MP, Odisha, and Rajasthan. The National MPI measures
deprivations across three equally weighted dimensions of health, education, and standard of living that are
represented by 12 SDG-aligned indicators.
69. Bihar overtakes Tamil Nadu to become India's largest MFI market
Report published by Crif High Mark Bihar has overtaken Tamil Nadu to become the state with the highest
microlending borrowings in India as of March 2023. Bihar had a 13.5% increase in the gross lending portfolio
during the March quarter compared to the previous quarter.
NBFC holds the largest share in the market (37.3% of the overall MFI loans), while Banks at 33.1% and small finance

70. Ministry of Education releases report on Performance Grading Index 2.0
Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education released the Performance
Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) combined report for 2020-21 & 2021-22

73. Fisheries Survey of India (FSI)
Fisheries Survey of India (FSI) surveys reveal good number of dolphins, whales on the East Coast.
In all, 2,703 dolphins and four whales have been sighted in the coast covering Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West
Bengal, (12 to 200 nautical miles).
The survey had commenced in July 2021, and would continue up to June 2024 The larger marine mammal sighting
survey was conducted by various FSI zonal bases on the East and West coasts, and the one in Port Blair, using the
FSI fleet, all along the Indian EEZ, under the guidance of R. Jeyabhaskaran, Director- General, FSI, Mumbai.
Total 10,416 dolphins of 16 species and 27 whales of four species, were sighted in the survey
The survey was conducted as part of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
PMMSY was launched on September 10, 2020, with the objective of bringing in the ‘Blue Revolution’ through
sustainable development of the fisheries sector for five years from 2020 to 2025, with a total outlay of 20,050

A non-profit Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) released its annual compendium, titled 'State of India's

Telangana was ranked at the top in terms of overall environmental performance and in terms of increasing
forest cover.

78. NHAI’s first ‘Sustainability Report for FY 2021-22’
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has released NHAI’s first ‘Sustainability Report for FY 2021-22’, which covers

From FY2019-20 to 2021-22, direct emissions were reduced by 18.44% and 9.49% due to less fuel

According to Reuters Institute's Digital News Report 2023, DD India and All India Radio have been recognized

Total milk production in the country during 2021-22 is 221.06 million tonnes.

According to an RTI, only 486 antiquities have been reported as missing (since Independence) from the 3,696
monuments protected and maintained by the ASI.

as any object or work of art that has been in existence for at least 100 years.
For “manuscript, record or other document which is of scientific, historical, literary or aesthetic value”, this

104. ODF Plus Ranking Report
Wayanad district in Kerala has become the first district in the country to be declared ODF (open defecation-free)
Plus. The ODF programme is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which was launched on October 2, 2014, to
achieve cleanliness and sanitation across the country. Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) is a national effort launched
by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. It is a
reformed version of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, which was started in 2009.
The top performing states in terms of percentage of ODF Plus villages are - Telangana (100%), Karnataka (99.5%),
Tamil Nadu (97.8%) & Uttar Pradesh (95.2%) among the big states and Goa (95.3%) and Sikkim (69.2%) among
small states, are the top performer.
Among UTs – Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra Nagar Havelli & Daman Diu and Lakshadweep have 100% ODF
Plus Model villages.
An ODF Plus village is one which has sustained its Open Defecation Free (ODF) status along with implementing

105. NITI Aayog’s Annual Health Index 2020-21:
Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana emerged as the top performers among the ‘larger states’ in the NITI Aayog’s

The AI Supercomputer ‘AIRAWAT’, installed at Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune
has been ranked 75th in the top 500 Global Supercomputing List. The announcement was made during the 61st
edition of the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC 2023) held in Germany.
It has the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including weather forecasting, drug discovery, climate
modelling, and artificial intelligence research. AIRAWAT's manufacturer is Netweb Technologies.
Airawat PSAI, stands as India’s largest and fastest AI supercomputing system, with a remarkable speed of 13,170
teraflops.
There are three other supercomputers in the top 500 list:
PARAM Siddhi-AI supercomputer ranked at No. 131 –installed at C-DAC, Pune.
Pratyush supercomputer ranked at No. 169 – installed at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology.

India has been ranked 52nd out of 121 countries in the Digital Quality of Life Index Survey 2023.
The annual survey by the Netherlands-based firm has ranked 121 countries on five factors: internet quality,
internet affordability, e-infrastructure, e-government, and e-security.
In Asia, India takes 13th place, with Singapore the leader in the region.
5th annual Digital Quality of Life Index shows an increase of seven ranks from 59th to 52nd. France hits the top
position, followed by Finland, Denmark, and Germany. Singapore tops the list in terms of Asia.

114. India Ranks 40th In Global Innovation Index 2023
India has maintained its 40th rank in the latest Global Innovation Index (GII) 2023 released by the World
Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), making it a leading position holder among the lower middle- income
country group.
The country ranked first among the 37 lower-middle group income and first among the 10 economies in
Central and South America.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has also been collaborating in India's journey towards an innovation-
driven economy. This year, the NITI Aayog, in partnership with the CII and the World Intellectual Property
Organisation (WIPO), is hosting, virtually, the India Launch of the GII 2023 on 29th September 2023.
115. India Slips Four Spots To 56th Position In 2023 World Talent Ranking
Out of 64 economies, India has slipped four spots to 56th position, compared to its 52nd position in 2022, in
the 2023 World Talent Ranking, according to the International Institute for
Management Development (IMD) release.
The IMD World Talent Ranking considers various factors, including quality of life, statutory minimum wage, and
primary and secondary education.
In the IMD World Talent Ranking 2023, Switzerland ranked on top, while Luxembourg was in second place,
followed by Iceland, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
The United States is ranked 15th, while China is at 41st place, and the UK ranks 35th. Brazil (63rd) and
Mongolia (64th) occupy the bottom two spots.

Hong Kong's 53-year reign as the most open economy in the world has come to an
end as Singapore has surpassed Hong Kong to take the top spot, according to a report published by the
Canadian think tank Fraser Institute,
Hong Kong ranked second for the first time in the Economic Freedom of the World Index, which has been
measuring economic freedom since 1970.
The ease of international trade is one of the many elements the index considers when rating economic

117. UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) India, in collaboration with the International Institute for
Population Sciences (IIPS), unveiled the highly anticipated "India Ageing Report 2023." This report sheds light on

population in India and by 2050, the elderly population will make up over 20% of India’s total population. More
than 40% of India’s elderly population is in the poorest wealth quintile, and
around 18.7% of them live without any income such levels of poverty may affect their quality of life and healthcare
utilisation. The report projected that by 2046, the size of the elderly population in India will be higher than that of
children aged 0–14. The ageing index measures the number of elderly (60+ years) per 100 children population

118. Delhi emerges as India’s most air polluted city, Aizawl has cleanest air: Respirer Living Sciences
The analysis conducted by independent think tank Climate Trends and tech firm Respirer Living Sciences, that
manufactures real-time IoT-based air quality monitoring devices, showed that Aizawl and Mizoram have India's
cleanest air with a PM2.5 level of only 11.1 micrograms per cubic metre.
Delhi's PM2.5 concentration stood at a staggering 100.1 micrograms per cubic meter, which is three times
higher than the government's established safe limit.
Patna was the second-most polluted city, followed by Muzaffarpur, Faridabad, Noida

India has been placed at the 111th position out of 125 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) for 2023

With a score of 28.7 on the Global Hunger Index-2023, India has a serious level of serious hunger
As per the index, India also has the highest child wasting rate in the world at 18.7 percent, reflecting acute
undernutrition. Wasting is measured based on children’s weight relative to their height.
While the rate of undernourishment in India stood at 16.6 percent and under-five mortality at 3.1 percent,
the prevalence of anaemia in women aged between 15 and 24 years stood at 58.1 percent.
The Women and Child Development Ministry said the index suffers from “serious methodological issues and
shows a malafide intent”.
Three out of the four indicators used for calculation of the index are related to the health of children and
cannot be representative of the entire population.
Belarus, Bosnia, Chile, China and Croatia are the top five countries in GHI 2023.
